I love watching Dave Ryding tackle the slalom. Even more so when he absolutely smashes it and is in first place. For now. He deserves to keep that spot - oh, to have a knee action and still body as good as his. Holding my breath until the last skier has skied. #AlpineWorldChampionships

Proper fat flake schnee today and the back garden is transformed. About time. Should have a smashing few final days of this trip. #Austria

BBC Scotland reports on today’s school closures for Storm Éowyn.

Our next door neighbour knows how to create “kerb appeal” 😊 #Austria

A bench with a view #Austria

Evening light on the view from the balcony. #Austria #Tirol

Cracking day off the beaten track to the village of a thousand wood stacks. Not a cloud in the sky. Enough schnee not to damage the planks. Birdsong, midday church bells, a lunch it will be hard to beat this year 😊

The trees are in their bridal finery. Such a glorious day. On top of the world and feeling rather blessed. #Austria

Crikey. All this mountain air must be doing wonders for my brain. 🤓 Wordle 1,304 2/6 ⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Giving the planks a rest today. Went for a wander up the road behind our place, home to many a fine wood stack 😊 #Austria

Saturday, first thing. Crisp and bright and the rainbow effect was a bonus 😊 #Austria

Couldn’t see much up the mountain this morning but the quiet and stillness after last night’s windy blanketing is just lovely. Sitting on the balcony now, wrapped up warm and savouring the hush. #Austria

Made it to our bolthole for the next month. Bit of an epic drive but mustn’t moan too much about freezing rain and snow when we left our overnight stay near Frankfurt this morning as seems a lot of the UK also sampling that delight. Anyway it’s grand to be back in lovely Austria 😊

And we’re off. Bye Bye Dover. See you again in Feb. #EscapeToTheMountains

A very Merry Christmas you lovely lot from #Stratters and my Bottom in the tree. 😊🎄

Not sure how the swans can see anything in the depths of the murky Avon but there must be something tasty down there. Much bottoming up on the river this morning. I do love seeing their little legs from this angle.

I also bumped into colleague of old @hammondweather.bsky.social round the corner from Marylebone Station which was a lovely brief encounter. Me heading home, he off to do the Late Shift on Radio 4. Bad Luck, John. I occasionally miss things about the old life but that isn't one of them!

Rarely out after dark these days but walking home from the station this evening I passed this splendid old street lamp near the church. Pressed all the wrong buttons for night mode on my iPhone camera and ended up with “stage light”. Seems fitting for #Stratters and I rather like the effect. 🤷‍♀️

For the first time on Bluesky, here is the traditional outing for Frank Skinner on Colin Jackson's notorious showdance #strictly

It is once again that time of year when every Books Dad gets absolutely bodied by Molesworth.

Today’s poem is called ‘Needles’.

Put out the hotch potch Festive extras and the Nativity scene. (As they’re sharing the space with the Vodafone box of tricks I’m referring to this tableau as “The Adoration Of The WiFi”)

This is so beautiful.

Going to see Twelfth Night tonight (think it’s the first preview) with my favourite teacher from school who brilliantly taught English and Drama and who is now a very near neighbour as well (across the street and down a bit)! How’s that for coming full circle. #Stratters
