Astronomers! One of the best things about the old astro-Twitter was that there was frequent discussion of the latest research. The new AstroSci feed is the perfect place to have this kind of science discussion! ☄️ If you see a cool paper - post about it!

Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) feature a supermassive black hole at a galaxy's center. These things come in three flavors: quasars, blazars, and Seyfert galaxies. But don't get confused! They are almost the same phenomenon viewed from different angles. 1/2 #astronomy #astrophotography

A labyrinth, a mandala of dust and stars, that’s what galaxies seem to be. This one, if our estimates are correct, hosts about 400 billion stars and an outrageous amount of dust. M 63, everybody! #astronomy #astrophotography #space #constellation #stars #Outdoors #Nightsky #nightphotography #galaxy

It is not a famous target, so it is not often photographed, and there is not much information about it. It's close to the Rosette Nebula so you can find it in the Monoceros constellation. I find it to be very cool. Don't ya? #astronomy #astrophotography #space #nebula #nebulae #constellation #stars

The supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way appears to be having a party, complete with a disco ball-style light show. Using #NASAWebb, astrophysicists have gained the longest, most detailed glimpse yet of the “void” that lurks in the middle of our galaxy. (1/6) 🔭 🧪

The best dark sky in the world - the Atacama Desert in Chile, which hosts many @eso.org telescopes - is under threat from an industrial project. 🔭 Astronomers can sign a petition in favour of moving the planned industrial project: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Most of the fun in astrophotography is finding something new or, at least, not so common. Behold M-41, as you might not have seen it before this way. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #nightsky #nightphotography #photography #outdoors #stars #nebula #nebulae

Reflection nebulae are tough to capture bc: 1) they are dim, and therefore 2) you need a dark site, the darkest the better. This dusty region is LBN 801 in Lynx. #astronomy #science #astrophotography #nightsky #outdoors #stars

I had the chance to improve by a lot my processing techniques, and want to share with you the reprocess of these two amazing objects: Sh2-284 (such a cool nebula) and NGC2403 (an amazing galaxy that looks pretty much alike M33). #Astronomy #Science #Astrophotography #Space #Outdoors #Photography

I found the “sister” of M33. Her name, NGC2403. They are pretty much alike. Have more or less the same size, shape, and they both feature a very big nebula: NGC604 in M33 and NGC2404 in the sister galaxy. Though, they got mad of each other, and now they are millions of l-y appart #Astronomy #Science

A reminder that humans are capable of great acts of wonder when we work together & embrace knowledge. An international team of astronomers has discovered swarms of cold comets circling 74 nearby stars -- and got clear pictures of these "exocomet belts." 🧪🔭 www.iac.es/en/outreach/...

There are mighty rivals for the famous Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula, like these, located in the not so famous SH2 284 nebula. You can find these in the Unicorn. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #nightsky #milkyway #nightphotography #photography #outdoors #stars #nebula #nebulae

I’ve seen too many “horse-head” nebulae, but no one like this. Pay attention to the stunning detail!

A simple setup, that is a telescope with a white Thousand Oaks filter and a Baader Solar Continuum filter, can reveal not only the sunspots and the faculae on the Sun’s photosphere, but give a hint of the convection cells as well. #astrophotography #astronomy #sun #milkyway #photography #outdoors

Together with two members of our #Astronomy club, COMETA, decided to take a picture in collaboration of this reflection nebula, NGC 2170, in the constellation Monoceros. This is a faint, dusty, but colorful place in our galaxy! Thanks, Ramón and Javier! Great job! #astrophotography #science

Together with other two members of my #Astronomy club, worked as a team to take a picture of NGC 2170, the Angel Nebula. I just finished stacking the data and the result looks very promising. This is so much rewarding! I will publish the final image very soon. So, stay tuned! #astrophotography

J0742+2704: Retains a spiral shape unlike typical quasars, which are often found in older elliptical galaxies formed after galaxy mergers, making it a rare and surprising find. Hosts a black hole over 400 million times the mass of the Sun.

Phew! My gosh! This has been the faintest narrowband deep sky object I’ve ever taken so far. SH2-224 is a SN remnant in the constellation of Auriga. Beautiful thing indeed! #Astronomy #Astrophotography #Science #Milkyway #Stars

Last weekend I spent a whole night capturing data from the high amplitude Delta Scuti (HADS) star SZ Lyn, and I got 3 complete cycles of it! This star slightly shrinks and contracts in less than every 3 hours. We know this by the shape of her light curve. #Astronomy #Stars #Science

From Skylar Grayson, Cole Meldorf, Brandon Pries, & William Smith: In this Guide, we breakdown one of the most important models in astrophysics: the ΛCDM model of cosmology! 🔭✨ astrobites.org/2025/01/06/l...

Heaven is really a mess. Chaos, rather than harmony, is what rules our universe. This ‘calmness’ that we percieve from Earth is only apparent. A testimony of this is SH2 171. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #nightsky #nightphotography #photography #outdoors #stars #nebula #nebulae #Milkyway

A real star nursery, where cold gas and dust collapse under their own gravity to form new #Stars; that’s what NGC 1333 is all about. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #nightsky #nightphotography #photography #outdoors #stars #nebula #nebulae #Milkyway

M 104. A lenticular galaxy you can find early in the morning (with a modest but good telescope) in the constellation of Virgo. This, no doubt about it, is one of the most spectacular objects in our nightsky. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #nightsky #nightphotography #photography #stars

A powerful star can create such a strong star-wind that can push the interstellar medium in such a way to form an almost perfect round bubble like this one. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #nightsky #nightphotography #photography #outdoors #stars #nebula #nebulae

Almost ready for to-night! #astronomy #astrophotography

Happy holidays everybody!!! Wish you all the best of the best!!!

Things I Thought I’d Never See… great webinar that reflects the passion that most amateur astronomers have (including me) for expanding our knowledge of the universe we live in. #Astronomy youtu.be/kmKt7QNL6n8?...

Here's how I think the V404 Cygni system formed: a black hole was sitting by itself and a binary star walked up and said, "Hey we saw you from across the bar and really dug your vibe." badastronomy.beehiiv.com/p/a-black-ho... 🔭🧪
