A disproportionately high number of children in poverty live in a household where a person has a disability. As with the existing two-child limit, cuts for disabled people would mean that some of our country’s most vulnerable are forced to bear the brunt of cost-saving measures...

BREAKING: We screened a message from migrant parents across Westminster. Hostile immigration rules enforced by this Govt. drive children into poverty. 🔊End child poverty, for EVERY child. Scrap No Recourse to Public Funds. Make sure they know, we won’t let this go. Share now. youtu.be/0d9YPGlFzC0

The government should expand free school meals eligibility, and consider centrally automatically enrolling eligible children for free school meals to ensure better coverage.

📢 Today, the Education Policy Institute (EPI), funded by @nuffieldfoundation.org published a new report exploring the strengths & weaknesses of Free School Meals (FSM) and Pupil Premium (PP) as measures for identifying disadvantaged pupils in England. Read full report👇 epi.org.uk/publications...

A disproportionately high number of kids in poverty live in a household with a disabled person. Stripping essential support will be damaging to disabled people and risks undermining the government’s child poverty strategy. Government can’t cut its way to better living standards for all.

On this day 60 years ago, the first meeting of the group that established CPAG took place at Toynbee Hall We are working to prevent and end child poverty – for good.

‘Social security is the most effective policy lever for addressing child poverty.’

We interviewed 40 experts on what works to deliver real change for children in poverty. Raising incomes matters most, but every department and level of government has a role to play. Good practice already happening in many parts of the UK, so effective collaboration and coordination will be key.

What would a good child poverty strategy mean for children? CPAG with @savechildrenuk.bsky.social have published new research on how to deliver a child poverty strategy. This is why it’s so important to get it right.

The UK child poverty strategy is a huge opportunity to significantly reduce child poverty, which has been rising over the past 15 years. Funded by @impurbanhealth.bsky.social, CPAG with @savechildrenuk.bsky.social have researched how to deliver the strategy. Read more: cpag.org.uk/news/buildin...

4.3 million children are in poverty UK govt won’t see progress on child poverty by 2029 even with high economic growth 📢 Our analysis shows under our central scenario only Scotland will see child poverty rates fall by 2029 in part due to social security policies 1/5

Parents are doing their best to stay afloat, but winters hit hard, leaving many families in cold homes. Listen to their experiences and share to raise awareness. #ProgrammeForGovernment @changingrealities.bsky.social

The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill set out some initial steps that will help bring down the cost of going to school – and these are welcome. Free breakfast provision and limitations on branded school uniform, done well, will make a difference... 1/2

A few years on from when Changing Realities spoke to Radio 4 PM and the issues faced by families living on low incomes have not improved, they’ve even gotten worse. Listen to Kim’s contribution to the discussion on the cost of living crisis.

Families are forced to make impossible decisions on which bills will need to wait, whilst budgeting on wages which barely cover the basics. Aurora shared her experience on Radio 4 PM, listen and share. @changing_r bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

No child should grow up in poverty due to their identity or birthplace. Families with no recourse to public funds feel abandoned, children from minoritised backgrounds face higher poverty rates. Let’s support all families to thrive. #ChangingRealities changingrealities.org/priorities

Raising happy, healthy children is key to a successful society, but kids are expensive. Parents on low incomes face anxieties no one in a wealthy country should endure. Read our programme and see the changes needed. #HopeStartsHere #ChangingRealities changingrealities.org/priorities

In-work households, where parents are working full time, can still not meet the costs associated with a minimum standard of living. Wage growth has not kept up with inflation and families cannot keep up with a minimum acceptable living standard.

A combination of cuts and gaps in support means parents are unable to meet a decent living standard for them and their children.

Years of underfunding our social security system: freezes, below-inflation increases of support, and cruel policies like the two-child limit and benefit cap have hit families living on low -incomes the hardest. We need to invest in children living in poverty. cpag.org.uk/sites/defaul...

There is plenty to welcome in the opportunity mission, valuing the importance of early years and children getting off to a good start at school. It's good to see recognition that tackling child poverty is central to giving children the best start in life and secure futures.

The PM recognises that families can’t make ends meet but if change is to come it will require reinvestment in social security. That’s the way to improve living standards for children. Abolition of the two-child limit is the first action struggling families need from the govt.

The Scottish Government today took decisive & necessary action on child poverty to mitigate the two-child limit, a poverty-producing policy. Our research w/ @kittyjstewart.bsky.social @aaronreeves.bsky.social sets out the. harm this policy and its sister, the benefit cap, causes largerfamilies.study

The Scottish government has made the right decision on the two-child limit, but Westminster must now step up and scrap it UK-wide. There can be no justification now for Westminster to drag its feet and continue to roll out poverty to more and more children through this policy.

Our cost of a child calculations show, for the first time, all family types on low and modest incomes can't meet their costs or minimum living standards. Work alone isn’t the answer to child poverty—we need investment in social security. cpag.org.uk/sites/defaul...

Changing Realities wants the government to hear the voices and experiences of families on a low income. Last week, we went to 10 Downing Street to talk about what a Child Poverty Strategy shaped by those who know what must change should look like. #HopeStartsHere @changingrealities.bsky.social

Our new cost of a child calculations show that, for the first time since the research started in 2008, all family types on low and modest incomes are unable to meet their costs or reach what the public deems a minimum acceptable living standard.

As part of the End Child Poverty Coalition, we are today launching a set of eight tests that the government’s child poverty strategy must meet. Read more: endchildpoverty.org.uk/8_tests/

How many parents are having to skip lunch because of an unexpected bill? Parents and kids should be able to enjoy every stage of childhood without having to worry about the cost of a growth spurt. Hear Aurora's experiences and share to raise awareness. #HopeStartsHere #ChangingRealities

The lunch hour is the only part of the school day that is means-tested, says Kate Anstey of @cpaguk.bsky.social, arguing the case for universal free school meals www.tes.com/magazine/ana...

Coverage of our case. Social security should provide stability & support at times of need. The brutality of the two-child limit is clear in what these women & children have been through. Their experience should focus minds on the need to abolish it. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Social security should provide stability & support at times of need, but the brutality of the two-child limit is plain to see in what these women & children have been through. Their experience should focus minds on the need to abolish the policy entirely. www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

The Chancellor brought good news on breakfast clubs and universal credit deductions but this was not a Budget of bold action on child poverty.
