My pronouns are nerd/geek. I hope I'm an ally to many and an enemy to few. I can't believe bsky ran out of more interesting people to invite.

Kristi Noem wants to use a flamethrower against the government. More unhinged behavior from MAGA Republicans.

Well, that's mighty rare... I'll take it! Wordle 1,345 2/6 ⬜🟩🟨⬜🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

Per @adamschiff.com: “Donald Trump promised to let Elon Musk self-police his conflicts of interest. The result? Those investigating his companies have been fired. Cases against his companies have been dismissed. “The corrupt self-dealing is staggering.”

Depressing brilliance from my pal Ruben Bolling.

Elon Musk’s AI said he and Trump deserve the death penalty

Powerful. Tomorrow’s front page of the most influential weekly publication in Germany. “BETRAYED. First Zelensky, Soon Us? The radical departure of the US from its allies.”

"It's more important to be good anscestors than dutiful descendants. Too many people spend their lives being custodians of the past instead of stewards of the future. We worry about making our parents proud when we should be focused on making our children proud." - Adam Grant, "Hidden Potential"

Among those Trump and Musk fired at the FAA: - Lawyers who help keep drunk or reckless pilots out of the skies - Air traffic control support staff - Employees who track potential new flying hazards like cranes - Staffers who medically clear pilots to fly www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

A4) Focus. Not all vulnerabilities are equally dangerous or equally applicable. Reduce attack surfaces where possible. Rigorous house cleaning at every level (not needed/used = gone!). Partner to get better threat intelligence feeds (in actionable formats), etc. #CIOChat

A3) Trying for a balanced #ShiftLeft to address everything we can as early as possible. Placing no bets on the U.S. regulatory regime right now. Everywhere is likely to tighten up controls and reporting reqs in all kinds of areas (ESG, etc.). #CIOChat

A2) At a strategy level? Doubling down on the basics, automation (w/ or w/o #AI baked in), secure by design, auditable by design, zero trust (aspirational), etc. Also, balancing left-of-boom prevention with right-of-boom resilience, recovery, and mitigation. #CIOChat

A1) Biz as usual for many #IT infrastructure groups (and their auditors) needs to change. Heading toward zero trust. Not a #SupplyChain attack, but the global Crowdstrike incident got us thinking a lot about operational procedures and time-to-update metrics. #CIOChat

The cruelty is always the point. The shortsightedness is just a bonus. #TrumpsTraitors Trump Team Plans Deep Cuts at Office That Funds Recovery From Big Disasters www.nytimes.com/2025/02/20/c...

I think what I find so repellent about the far-right is the sheer nihilism at its core. For all the talk of culture and identity, they are just flimsy masks strapped over, in Arendt's words "the intoxication of destruction as an actual experience, dreaming the stupid dream of producing the void.”

I can’t remember where I read this, but it’s important: Why is it that when people think about traveling to the past, they worry about doing something small that will drastically change the present, but no one in the present thinks that doing something small today can drastically change the future?

There are NO 200 year olds collecting SS. Law requires funeral homes to give death notices to SS, and if the notice crosses with a post-death benefit, SS claws it back so fast you'll have scratch marks. Tell your MAGA uncle to call his reps! (jk, I think it's too late for that & I feel nothing.)

Just curious, y'all... How much damage to the U.S. and/or how much de facto aid to our enemies would someone have to give to be tried for treason? Can you place someone under "citizen's arrest" for it? Asking on behalf of ~330M people who deserve better... LOL Asked on X. Might get me banned...

Well, gee... Red super-majority state doesn't do things that will obviously help people... #GoFigure!

History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes…

Can't really say no to that. I get that it's "opinion", but it's tough to see how @nytimes.com justifies this kind of ... content. 🤮

I wasn't sure where a headline like this would go, but there's a lot to agree with in this ISACA write-up. Sounds like quite a case for citizen data scientists as well... www.isaca.org/resources/ne...

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

And it won't stop there. I'm sure we'll be hearing about plastering Trump's name on airports, federal buildings, etc. Just like the Republicans did before (cartoon from 2004)

This country has seen some bad moments in the 61 years, 5 months, 16 days I’ve been on this Earth. But it has never, ever before come close to the supertoxic level of stupidity, mendacity, narcissism, nihilism, and moral apathy that threaten to destroy it today.

One of the greatest tricks that Donald Trump and Elon Musk ever pulled is to convince millions of people that DOGE is about government efficiency. It's about narcissistic, resentful destruction: The Death of Government Expertise. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Imagine if the media pointed out there was already a Government Accountability Office whose job it is to go after actual waste and fraud, not just things Elon doesn’t like, and found $70 Billion in savings last year and $2 Trillion in waste since 2003. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governm...

We need Pete Buttigieg as a clear messenger, more than ever.

Our last American president, @JoeBiden, asked the central question very clearly last year: "Is democracy still America's sacred cause? This is not rhetorical, academic or hypothetical. Whether democracy is still America's sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time."
