Async is like that box of wires you have in your closet. Absolutely useful, but you are going to spend some time on it any time you want to use it.

Heads up to people trying to come to tech conferences or anything else in the US

Damnit, I forgot to download all my kindle books before Amazon removed the option... Honestly F--- Amazon here.

The angrier someone else the less willing they will tend to be when it comes to listening to reason or truth, particularly when it runs counter to the object of their ire.

If you're trying to figure out what to do right now, my advice is to just pick a thing that you think might be useful in some way, however small, and do it. Doing a thing leads you to doing another, bigger thing, and prepares you for that next thing.

It's not bait and switch when you aren't paying anything to begin with.

Most people don't read the release notes until after they installed something and it breaks... and then only when they complain and you have to tell them "it's in the release notes".

Ok, I hate my mechanical keyboard. In particular a few of my keys just won't register quickly enough... especially my shift key, its very mushy which is highly problematic. I've swapped switches, stabs, even the board. Originally got this b/c the old MBP keyboard was ass. Now I prefer my MBP (M1).

When did window management in Windows get so good? I'm impressed, they far surpassed macOS which has stagnated in this area, without really major updates in over a decade... and no the new stuff in macOS with the hot corners is not good and not major.

Another way to put this: Musk and his twerps have exposed us to pandemics, broken science, stolen all your data, endangered the U.S. payments system, threatened air traffic control, and cut off HIV medication to 20m people in order to save ::checks notes:: 2/10th of a percent of the federal budget.

Breaking News: Mar a Lago to be renamed Golf of Mexico.

New from 404 Media: anyone can push updates to the Doge.gov site. Two sources independently found the issue, one made their own decision to deface the site. "THESE 'EXPERTS' LEFT THEIR DATABASE OPEN." www.404media.co/anyone-can-p...

The best part of my day is trying to get my teenagers out of bed. The /s should be implied, I think.

go1.24 is out, that doesn't mean you need to go and update all your packages to use this for the go directive. In fact, please don't. ❤️

There has been a shift in the Trump team's language in their anti-DEI attacks. All of a sudden they started calling it "DEIA", with the A being "accessibility". If you don't think it's a coordinated effort to remove disabled people from every facet of life, well I have news for you.

Who did this?!

Hearing my kids hs drama I am so glad I didn't have friends.

Github Actions console is ass. I'm grateful it exists but... ass.

lol, the Windows installer put the boot partition on my USB stick instead of my SSD.

The windows installer should have space pinball or Hover (circa Win95) as games to play while you wait.

New PC name is "Anduril". Following along my existing Tolkien themed names for my devices which currently include Sting, Shadowfax, and Glamdring.

Aah, never been happier to see the windows logo.

Adventures in pc build: Have everything setup now, but Windows can't see my nvme... So... good times.

Got my PC all built. It powers on... But hell if I know what it's doing because I didn't realize my monitor needs mini-DP, which I don't have at the moment.

Remember: companies don't have morals, they have markets.

When I was a kid I would pull the covers up over my head, make them taught, and pretend I was an x-wing pilot. If I'm being really honest, I've definitely done that within the last year.

Not just a snow day, but a "remote learning" day. Should be "fun".

Before you spread panic about imaginary issues with Signal, consider why these rumors might be going around right now and in whose interest it might be for them to do so

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Middle kid turned 13 today.

I want to be in a different timeline...

Can you make more money scaling nvidia cards or eggs these days?

I really do not share the burden here: This was @mossaka.bsky.social & James Sturtevant and team @david.justice.dev and @containerd.dev and @fermyon.com and @liquidreply.bsky.social and some @opensuse.bsky.social people and some others I'm leaving out, for sure. But nice to see it finally get in!

Trump is completely senile at this point, right?

Big time 🚨 energy. Calling all of the 🧪 feed. Please re-skeet.

Today is my last day at Docker. I really appreciated the opportunity to work with the people there, and I certainly learned a lot. I'll be looking for a role that sponsors non-US visas next. If you have any leads that I could be a good fit for, holler at your goose! DMs are open 💕

So he's going to concentrate all the "criminal illegal" immigrants in gitmo, a place that was even harsh for the world's worst terrorists... She seems like it's happening again.

Brinkmanship is a game I thought we learned long ago was a win for no one. But here we are.

Tools are rarely strictly "better" or the "best". Everything has trade-offs. Some tool might be better in a specific scenario but worse in other scenarios. Other people can't tell you what is the "best". Test the tools and choose the one that gives you the most desirable trade-offs for you.
