January Trump approval on the economy: plus +8.24 points Today Trump approval on the economy: minus -15.75 January Trump approval on inflation: plus +1.99 Today Trump approval on inflation: minus -22.24 So clearly it's time to deploy the Marines in L.A.? www.newsweek.com/donald-trump...

the number of times i was told i did not really want a simple chronological feed

Perhaps we should recognize that the problem isn’t Gen Z not showing up but rather being systematically disenfranchised by the GOP.

one thing that Democratic politicians should take note of is that the overlap between “great political optics” and “actual morally good stuff” is really big right now

Revealing just how selectively this administration respects national sovereignty. With Canada and Greenland, Trump threatens invasion enthusiastically. With El Salvador, Trump sees sovereignty as sacrosanct.

Called my congressman who voted for the SAVE act. Me: What documents will I need to vote if this passes? Staffer: a DL and birth certificate. Me: The documents don’t match Staffer: Then a marriage certificate. Me: Will my husband need the marriage certificate too? Staffer: No Me: See the problem?

JFC. WE ARE STILL WORSE OFF. We still have *at least* 10% global tariffs. Businesses can’t make decisions, as they don’t know what tariffs will be 90 days from now I usually say Trump is great at repackaging the status quo as victory but this is significantly worse than pre-Liberation Day status quo

Pilot puts plane into a nosedive, pulls out at the last minute, saunters back into the cabin looking for high fives from the vomit covered passengers.

it’s weird that we’re staring down the second unprecedented economic catastrophe in five years and instead of a novel coronavirus that will go on to kill millions of people this one is just “no one was willing to tell him no”

If they had read some of the books before banning them, maybe they’d have a better understanding of what tariffs really are.

We talk about this on-air a lot. What company is going to spend the $$ to bring production home — knowing that trade policy and tariffs could *reverse* just as the plant is ready to open? @firstadopter.bsky.social @conorsen.bsky.social

CNBC ANCHOR: “The market reaction after hours — I’ve never seen anything like it. Worse than the worst-case scenario.”

Asked my smart economist friend about how #TrumpTariffs help Americans or even the rich, because I couldn't see it, and he said, "It doesn't. He's destroying stuff. It doesn't benefit anyone...except our enemies."

If you have a Republican representing you in the House or Senate, call them to demand they undo Trump's tariffs. They're already shaken by the 20 point shift in Florida and the Wisconsin loss. You can fuel that feeling.

It's getting a lot of attn today. But even before today most of the country had very little idea of what has happened at NIH or through it the entire ecosystem of biomedical research in the US. Simply put, Musk, Kennedy & Trump exploded a bomb right in the middle of cancer cure research in the US.

I’m not saying everyone needs to do *this*. But @booker.senate.gov figured out the biggest best thing HE could do right now. And then he did it. Everyone needs to do *that*.

What people in every part of higher education need to understand is that Republicans now want to do to universities what they’ve tried to do to labor unions: erase them from the institutional landscape. The question is how much you want to collaborate in your own destruction.

With college / no college the biggest D / R predictor even for stem or biz students, yes I think the Rs intend to smash universities across the board until they either turn off the 'indoctrinate' switch GOP imagines they have, or until kids just stop going to college

What's truly striking right now is how few people it would take to stop everything Trump and Musk are doing. A small handful of Republican lawmakers and two Republican-appointed Supreme Court justices. They could demand sanity, still get much of what they want and keep democracy intact. And yet...

"It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is." - Marbury v. Madison (1803).

Academics and researchers are receiving emails from their higher-ups, explaining that rules are changing and their institutions are carefully monitoring the situation. Have any university higher-ups sent emails saying "We continue to be unwavering in our support for the rights of all human beings?"

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad. There’s not.

What folks are getting a tough lesson in right now: Institutions are people. They are not abstract forces that exist as firewalls or safeguards. They are just people who play a role and who perhaps have abided by norms, but whose decisions minute to minute shape the role those institutions play.

Congressional Trumpers are doing whatever he says, kissing his ass, rolling over again and again on command like well trained doggies not because of God, country or the American people they so love to often invoke—they are doing so to enrich and advance themselves. Their oath means nothing.

DEI: Deflecting Every Incompetence.

Why are there never Times editors who can write quality, objective headlines?

Normalizing spelling out what people actually mean when they cite DEI rather than letting them hide behind the safe cover of a euphemism that's been sapped of meaning

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

If you aren’t sure what to do about the challenges we face, the one thing we know is that doing nothing & isolating are going to be our least effective options. If you need a baby step, you can be a part of a mutual aid network or join a local group trying to solve a problem (even if very small).

If you are worried about democracy, one of the best things you can do is to do something about it with other people. Like in your neighborhood or at your church or school or Elks Club or whatever. We will not be saved by our righteous feelings, donating, writing, thinking, posting, or clicking.

Thread. Yet another reason Reaganomics was horrible for America.

My dad was a mailman, so was my uncle. USPS jobs are good hard work & make a difference esp in a rural community. Even where my parents live, in a metro area, they’re 162 miles from their Amazon warehouse. Prime doesn’t really work there. USPS does.

A Steelers win over the Ravens will always hit different. I’m so happy for Patrick Queen. He played a huge part in this W.
