I love this crowd shot I found last night taken of fans gathering in the Shibe Park stands in Philadelphia prior to Game 1. A's fans must have been very confident before that game. Two things stand out -- the variety of hats the men of that time wore and second, how few women were in attendance.

This week -- Biographer David King on Texas-born Hall of Famer Ross Youngs plus some artists we think ought to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame but are not. Hooks & Runs is a podcast about baseball, music & culture. #podcast #podcasts #baseball #music #culture

On March 30, 2000, the Houston Astros played their first ever baseball game at Daiken Park (known then as, Enron Field), an exhibition game against the New York Yankees. Do you know who was the starting pitcher for the Astros in that game?

What bands that are not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that you think ought to be? I’m our last episode, we picked six. They were: Iron Maiden The B-52s Anthrax Soundgarden Motörhead Sonic Youth Who are yours?

It’s shocking how irrelevant the Grammy Awards have become. The Beatles win for best rock performance? The Rolling Stones win for best rock album? What is this — 1969?
