It's been interesting having moved to Canada to consider how much a changing climate is changing the patterns that we're accustomed to and what we would think if the system weren't a complex, interconnected system with multiple feedback loops.

Join us on March 12 for the latest webinar by the @biometeorology.bsky.social Students and New Professionals Group! #statistics #biometeorology biometeorology.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?...

The 2025 @biometeorology.bsky.social SNP Workshop registration is open until Friday! Join us in South Africa, July 1-3, 2025 for Tracing Histories of Biometeorology! #earlycareer #students #humanbiometeorology #animalbiometeorology #phenology uwaterloo.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

Elie Bou-Zeid providing a nice overview of #urbanclimate connecting it to #urbanmeteorology. Great diagram highlighting the variability in the #UHI. The prevalence of the UHI is apparent at multiple time scales, including diurnal and sub-diurnal scales. #ams2025

Thankful a great #ams2025 and getting to share the great news that the new @amsurbanclimate.bsky.social chair @neginnazarian.bsky.social is also a ✨newly minted✨ Associate Professor! @ametsoc.bsky.social

Alexis Merdjanoff shares how older adults living through Hurricane Ian are now rethinking their need for supports to thrive despite their skepticism of climate adaptation. Insurance and state protections are being removed leaving them more vulnerable & dependent on informal support systems. #ams2025

Gisel Guzman-Echavarria presents detailed field work that surprisingly shows that mobile homes might not be the hottest in Phoenix and that personal heat exposure differs dramatically from outdoor conditions measured at airport weather station. #ams2025 @ametsoc.bsky.social #EnvironmentandHealth

Very thankful to have the opportunity to share my work on older adults and heat/ozone risk this morning at #ams2025 in one of the Health sessions. Check out the work here: doi.org/10.1093/gero... #heatrisk

Starting the day in a heat and health session at #ams2025! NWS covering the new HeatRisk product. Encouraged to see strong correlations with ED visits. Now hearing about improved, multi-segmented individual skin and core heat modeling from @arizonastateuni.bsky.social’s Ankit Joshi!

👋Welcome to Blue Sky to all the recent social media migrants. A short introduction: I'm a #urbanclimate & #humanhealth researcher based at the University of Waterloo in Canada focusing on #urbanheat. (1/2)

Many thanks to Marialena Nikolopoulou for hosting a wonderful day of #UrbanClimatescapes with myself and Julie Futcher back in June at the University of Kent. Check out the video below, synthesizing the day! www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5QE...

Our research from the #EPA-funded #HOMEAir project is out and #openaccess! New insights into the importance of central ac to prevent #heat and #ozone related health symptoms for older adults. Thanks to my coauthors Cassie, Amir, Dave, Olga, and Mary for your hard work! doi.org/10.1093/gero...

This has been in the works for over a year, but SO excited to have the last of my dissertation published today! Out now #openaccess with the Journal of Urban Design and Mental Health www.urbandesignmentalhealth.com/journal.html is my review/commentary on thermal wellbeing! zenodo.org/records/1280...

Honored to be featured by my university's media relations about the opportunities for addressing urban heat challenges, even in a traditionally cold place like Canada. uwaterloo.ca/news/solving...

Excited for this week’s workshop at @columbiaclimate’s #ExtremeHeatWorkshop. So excited, I’m a day late in posting. Day 1 was full of interesting research and data, looking forward to the rest! (And my talk on Friday morning)

Thanks to CNN Health’s Kristen Rogers for bringing this important topic to the the national conversation. Heat has pervasive impacts today, including worsening the #mentalhealth crisis. www.cnn.com/2023/11/17/h...

ASU Urban Climate director, Mateo Georgescu, kicking off the #ICUC11Sydney with a plenary on urban climate modeling

In a big win for climate, the young Montana plaintiffs who (rightly) sued their state for violating their right to a “clean and healthful environment” by promoting the use of fossil fuels have won their case!

First post to say that I’m en route (with a couple of detours) to the International Conference on Urban Climate in Sydney, Australia. This is the convening body for #urbanclimate research. A body of research that represents the climate(s) experienced by over 50 of the world (80+% for US). Hello SFO!
