I really hope no-one tries running the economy on computers. Can you imagine if people started paying for stuff using them? The whole thing would collapse immediately. Good thing we can stick to coins with King Donald's head on them.

L'état c'est moi but delivered with zero panache

The nauseatingly fascinating thing about this is the coy way they do it. They know it’s wrong and they’re waiting to be told off for doing it - like little kids acting out

Free speech!

Every Republican Senator basically telling reporters, "look I think my colleagues are really opposed to this one, and if they vote no I will too." And nobody actually being brave enough to do it

An extra 1pp of GDP spent on defence, on top of more housebuilding & more public spending (simply to repair services), implies a big drop in the % of GDP going on private consumption. How/whether to achieve this is a v.big & v.neglected political issue.

This whole fashion for irony amongst the right isn't very helpful, is it?

This is going to be such a great topic for cultural study in future decades. Why did early C21st America idolise characters for their ability to impose unspeakable cruelty from initial positions of weakness?

If you’re going to do this kind of nonsense, at least practice saying the crucial word a few times.

Would absolutely boycott if they hadn’t sewn up the holiday lets market. Vrbo etc come a very distant second in the range of places on offer. They succeeded where Uber failed, outspending and then undermine the competition. Strong case study of how to build a network-based semi-monopoly

There’s a Marie Stopes clinic near me. Heading up the hill I encountered the ghouls protesting about abortion. It’s a good case study in rights given last week’s carry on. /1

Is Trump practising Muskular diplomacy?

The Greatest Generation incurred the debt to defeat the Nazis… …and then they and their kids incurred even more debt paying for their social security and pensions. But who knows where the money went eh?

lots of politicians campaign in poetry and govern in prose. trump campaigned in crayon and is governing in dirty protest.

Every 20th Century British Character Actor's Wikipedia page:

Pains me a bit to say it, but de Gaulle was right all along wasn't he. De Gaulle was right about the Americans and the Brits and Europe in the end.

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.
