UPDATE: Lord’s have officially recognised the New Era.

You can find all our thoughts on Nat Sciver-Brunt's appointment as England captain in last week's vodcast. TLDR: In Lottie we trust. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywlh...

Our round up of the Second Round of matches in the MBODC, womens-cricket.blogspot.com/2025/04/metr... which sees Lancs top of the table and Essex and Surrey pointless at the bottom.....

Congrats to Richard and Polly for jointly winning the Manchester Marathon (women’s cricket journalists category).

The new portrait of Charlotte Edwards is unveiled in the Long Room at Lord’s. Edwards says that artist Hero Johnson has “captured everything about me”.

BIG DAY! County Cricket Mark Two begins 🥳 ICYMI - here’s our season preview:

Wisden Dinner 2025 in the Long Room at Lord’s.

So… who do we think this is, in the Long Room at Lord’s? (She is being officially unveiled in a few days time!)

Wisden 2025!

Having a separate Wisden 5 for men and women would mean not often ending up with (what appears to be) a single token inclusion of a woman, but a separate award may not be reported on by media or mentioned as an afterthought with the main focus being on what they see as the 'real' award (the men's).

Intriguingly, this would bring us full-circle from the early radio coverage of baseball pioneered by Ronald Reagan (yes… *that* Ronald Reagan!) who used to call games from a raw ticker-tape feed of the score, and just made up what was actually happening in play!

The ECB website has a fixture page for the Women's One Day Cup, which includes League 2. (Yes - it says "League 2" not "Tier 2".)

Blaze bosher Michaela Kirk doing what a Tier 1 player should be doing beaming-down to Tier 2 - scoring an enterprising hundred at warp-speed for Northamptonshire v Leicestershire.

On the CRICKETher Weekly: * Breaking news on the new Eng captain! * NRR drama at the World Cup Qualifier * Winners & losers from the Eng A tour * The season has started & we’re backing Surrey & The Blaze * ICC belatedly offer support to Afghanistan’s women

"Lined up" definitely isn't quite the same thing as "confirmed" or "announced"; but let's see if we get an emergency press release from the ECB in the next 20 minutes...!!! (It does track with what we've heard.)

So Bangladesh survive by the skin of their teeth! Another example of why cricket should be aiming to minimise play-last advantage. West Indies had the advantage of a precise target only because Bangladesh finished before WI started their chase. It was nearly enough to get West Indies through!

Drama at the qualifier. West Indies went for it - an incredible effort - and in the 11th over Stafanie Taylor miscalculates - hits a 6 which wins the game, but leaves the Windies short on NRR - she needed to hit a 4 THEN a 6!
