I can't believe I forgot how good the Leaf is - great suggestion. Mum says "thanks for that advice, Bernard. I really like your writing!"

How rude

Yeah and even with that time, it was easy to get an uber to where I needed to go (I had a large suitcase) and get there by 9. Would be good to move on from the Strand though eh

I think the best place it could stop post CRL would be Maungawhau, which I think would make a good long distance station until we build up more regional capacity. The old West line platforms will otherwise only be lightly used post-CRL, and regional trains can layover on the sidings at Morningside

Interesting. Yeah, just thought Te Wai Horotiu would make sense if it follows the same path but I knew real transit nerds would know or have better suggestions haha

Yeah, I do too! There's a future with connected regional passenger rail out there. We just need to make use of the services and advocate for it.

Arrived at 8:22 in Auckland, 20 minutes ahead of schedule. A+ service. Would love to see: 🏫 Improved wayfinding at The Strand πŸš„ Work necessary for faster speeds to cut travel time πŸ›œ Larger data allowance, higher speeds, and consistent wifi service πŸ”— Direct connection to Te Wai Horotiu

Back for a visit! Already people were using Pukekohe with 2 people getting off my carriage alone. More more more!

Hamilton has the best sunsets and sunrises!

And here is Te Huia stopping in Pukekohe for the very first time for all the NZ transit nerds!

And you get that wonderful Waikato fog and some stunning landscapes as the sun rises. I'm obsessed. More regional real services NOW

Some more prominent signage approaching or on the bridge for vehicles, and for pedestrians would help with that, I think. Also changing the suburb name from Peacocke would be a start bc why even give it that name to begin with
comment in response to post
It's a shame that with these beautiful designs, the Maaori motifs and storytelling woven into the major works in the area, that Hamilton City Council then decided to call the suburb 'Peacocke', after the family who had farmed that land for 150ish years... What the fuck

Taupara Bridge, a footbridge which crosses over Te Ara Pekapeka, is also gorgeous. Weathered steel and stunning taupara.

No I love this bridge

It's so fucking good!!!

I'm not saying they are. I'm saying the job market shrinking is gonna be bad in tandem with this. I just don't think it's in favour of locals unless you're a landlord
comment in response to post
Absolutely not the case imo. USD is so much strong that NZD. They may be paying more for goods but the incomes of those who are digital nomads are enough that it really won't be noticeable and for the quality of life... The economics arent in our favour imo
comment in response to post
It depends on the existing policy mix and availability of housing but in this economy with these policies and shrinking job market? It's bad news
comment in response to post
Hahaha love that. The latter has been great for me while I've been here actually. Have friends in lots of different places where I've been travelling. Lots to love about the experience

Oh dream, you enjoying yourself? Yeah hard, thank fuck I'm leaving literally the day it's dropping to go to New York before I fly out for home on Friday πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯ΉπŸ₯Ή
comment in response to post
Yeah agree completely. I think as a newcomer who moved knowing nobody, I'm finding it a bit tougher to love without having that community established but I'm making progress. It's just so much effort constantly

Worth it. I better get a bloody husband out of this!! (I joke, I'm getting a lot already lol)
comment in response to post
Absolutely get that. I grew up in taumarunui surrounded by hills. I miss nature of all sorts. Rural comforts like the river, the quiet, the emptiness, the sound of bird diversity. I'll definitely have a few moments I'm sure. What kept you in Toronto so long?

While also being the straightest thing I've seen
