Navy to strike the name of Harvey Milk from one of its ships. Milk was one of the 1st openly gay men elected to public office in the U.S. after winning a seat on the SF Board of Supervisors in 1977. He was assassinated a year later. Milk served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1955.
