What an amazing story. Watch this.

No longer able to bear the weight of cars, the Hammersmith Bridge now provides a peaceful crossing of the Thames for pedestrians and cyclists.

Further to this, from a political economy POV it’s important to unpack the ‘you’ here: Climate NGOs, their supporters & most of the climate policy community *do not want* new nuclear or CCS, and wider public is ambivalent at best. So in that sense, we can’t get *anything*, never mind ‘everything’

On the plus side, the go ahead for Sizewell C will add a whole new stream of lethally radioactive waste to the UK’s growing stockpile. Oh no hang on that’s not a plus

Good afternoon to everyone except this literal cop sat in a Range Rover on the double yellow lines *directly outside the main entrance to the department of Justice*

Seems UK and French govts might have secured enough private funding to build Sizewell C by prostrating British tax- and bill-payers, ready to take all the risk on another £40B+ project that will over-run by years. But I don't understand how Sizewell C can ever make money 1/

I’ve got to say it: cutting the Warm Homes Plan but funding nuclear and carbon capture is not how you’d prioritise if you were trying to reduce carbon emissions as quickly as possible

As Thames Water teeters on the brink of collapse, an independent review says more regulation is the answer. But this is like trying to fix a burst pipe with a bit of duct tape. Privatisation is the problem and public ownership is the solution. 🧵

It took only 8 years for solar to go from 100 to 1,000 TWh... then it took only 3 years to go from 1,000 to 2,000 TWh. Solar is growing faster than any source of electricity in history ☀️

“Dr. al-Farra said that most of the victims were children aged between 10 and 13, many with gunshot wounds to the head or chest.”

Saw a friend at the w/e who is just going into her 3rd trimester of pregnancy & I can’t stop thinking about her reflection that one of the best things about being pregnant has been men *leaving her alone* for the first time in her life. “It’s been so liberating” no catcalls or unsolicited flirting 😖

Cycle infrastructure works!

The Telegraph is now having to publish so many corrections to articles where it attempts to find *any angle whatsoever* to attack net-zero polices that it makes sense to start tracking them here. These are the ones published since Labour won the election. "We are happy to correct the record."

@jocoles.bsky.social a person who was riding a bike on Beech Grove in Harrogate was seriously injured in Saturday in a collision with a vehicle harrogatecycleaction.org.uk/2025/06/02/c.... Beech Grove is wholly unsuitable for the volume of through traffic it carries.

Good evening everyone

I have one answer, which is to toll single occupant private cars crossing putney bridge during the morning and evening rush hour, and use the revenue generated to improve the walking environment and public realm on Putney high street. But that would take a lot more political bravery than is evident

No wonder Thames Water don’t have time to call me back, Channel 4 news says they have been extremely busy pumping sewage into rivers. They have been given the biggest fine ever by Ofwat which is pretty impressive tbf, which they will now add to our bills youtu.be/v-OF6Jj8Q3Y?...

In central London, the average speed for drivers is 9 mph, making cycling the fastest way to reach places. The @LAS_CycleTeam Response Unit has operated for 20 years. I often see some of them taking a break at Bar Italia in Soho; I hope the coffee is on the house

If you looked exclusively at the UK’s experience you would be tempted to conclude that building high speed railways is simply impossible to do in practice. But China tells a very different story

This is Britain's death spiral. People feel poorer but are unlikely to link it to Brexit whilst becoming more susceptible to the far right tropes that caused it.

Wow, look at this: the carbon intensity of UK electricity is currently only 32g/kWh and 86.5% of our electricity right now is coming from renewables. Come on world, this IS possible! And it will only get better (meaning: cleaner, healthier, less intrusive) 🎉 (graphic from grid.iamkate.com )

It would be extremely, despairingly on brand for this administration to use energy efficiency funding (a structural, permanent solution to high energy bills and waste) to pay for a politically expedient u-turn on winter fuel payments (just more public cash handed straight to energy companies)

"What we are doing in Gaza is a war of extermination: indiscriminate, unrestrained, brutal, and criminal killing of civilians,” [former Prime Minister Olmert] said." www.huffpost.com/entry/israel...

Unfortunately, not least for me but also for everyone else who would rather not have to think about this, learning a lot about the aviation/climate problematic over the years has turned me into a massive, banquo’s-ghost level party pooper on the subject 😩

Good afternoon to everyone whose car is capable of fitting inside the lines
