A patient on inpatient hospice told our music therapist that he's been craving Twinkies and actually hallucinated that her guitar was one! Of course, she went out to get him a box. During these crazy times, let's take a moment to acknowledge that #kindnessmatters. @3wishesprogram.bsky.social

Syracuse not bothering to play defense here

My favorite message board reaction to today’s win.

Wildfires are strongly associated with increased exacerbations of preexisting COPD and Asthma, with greater chances of ED & Hospital Admissions. Children, the elderly, women, and people occupationally exposed are at higher risk. And wildfires will only increase in frequency due to climate change.

So much this. People don't realise how much of hospital medicine is getting people OFF unnecessary drugs due to the side-effects and keeping the helpful ones going.

Making the best of the snow

The dog loves the snow!

NYE in the ER always hurts my heart because we run traumas on people in the nicest clothes, whose evenings started with such excitement and promise. No one plans to be with us, but you can plan to avoid us: *public transit *ride share *designated sober driver *talk to your teens about their plans

Over 10 years ago an established trauma surgeon told me “trauma is primarily a psychiatric condition” I’ve thought about that often since. About where his is right and wrong(or offensive) Thoughts, #medsky ?

I put on a t-shirt today that I can definitely place purchase in the mid-90s (now 30 years ago)! It made me think about how we discard clothes too soon, and how maybe I don’t discard clothes soon enough.

Thanks to everyone in our hospitals, ERs, nursing facilities, and taking home call who are working today. Merry Christmas.

Elite volleyball is basically asking people to anticipate where lightning is about to strike and then hit it back.

Vaccine misinformation distorts science theconversation.com/vaccine-misi... Vaccines saved "154 million lives worldwide over the past 50 yrs." "...continually monitored for safety..." "...false claim that vaccines cause autism persists despite study after study...." via @us.theconversation.com

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends: 1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration; 2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you; 3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

It took four days from submission to publication, and nearly five years from publication to retraction. After campaigning by many, many scientists, and an investigation by Elsevier, an infamous paper on hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment has been retracted. 🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...

A Uniquely American Public Health Crisis ▪️ 2 dead, 6 injured. ▪️ Shooter: 15 years old. ▪️ 911 call made by a second grader. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children & adolescents in U.S. This is not normal. It is not acceptable. We owe our children more than thoughts and prayers.

I had an interesting encounter with vaccine hesitant parents recently. Their babe was old enough to be receiving their 3rd set of infant vaccines but had gotten none to date. But they brought him in for a health check. I took a deep breath #medsky #primarycare #vaccines 🧵

Sesame Street is a public good. It isn’t supposed to make money. The MUPPETS are supposed to make money. They’re the ones in it for the grind.

just saw a tiny wal-mart in somebody's picture window christmas village and at first it made me want to die but now i'm thinking i want to construct the most depressing little holiday tableau ever, fuck it. let's take this to its logical conclusion

Since my neighbor used an AR15 to hunt & kill 26 children & educators in Sandy Hook in 2012, I have worked with these incredible group of gun violence survivors, students, & other grassroots advocates to end the gun violence crisis in our nation. Please follow & support them. go.bsky.app/Uzkm7kS

It’s surprising this hasn’t received more attention, but a breathtaking 50ft sculpture, Dignity, was recently unveiled in South Dakota. Created by artist Dale Lamphere, this incredible piece honors the women of the Sioux Nation and their enduring strength, grace, and resilience.

I've seen a child with tetanus, I've treated near fatal infections after chicken pox, and I've pronounced children dead from COVID whose parents refused to have them vaccinated. We have lost our minds... and are about to lose so many of our precious children.

First day back from vacation makes you wonder if it was all worth it. It is worth it, but that first day…

Cost of medicine in the US is crazy compared to other countries and contributes to this problem

Regimes seem solid until they are not. Every resistance act matters because often regimes are crumbling from within from corruption and yet good at hiding that fact. cc: Russia

Fascinating and horrifying article www.propublica.org/article/thom...

My top 10 SFF of the year are up at @nytimes.com today, with one notable lacuna because I only managed to read it after I filed, so take it from me that METAL FROM HEAVEN absolutely belongs on this list & would have been if I had my shit more together, demonstrating why lists should be taken w/salt

Trying to navigate this foreign country. I think the candida toothpaste may lead to globus, but I’m still trying to figure it all out #medsky
