It’s hard to grieve what hasn’t died. Friendships. Trust. Normalcy. They’re still there—just not the same. That’s called ambiguous loss. And it’s everywhere now. A quick thread 🧵

Fascism doesn't arrive waving a flag. It shows up when we're too tired, too distracted, and too flooded to fight back. A 🧵 about the climate crisis and the authoritarian creep:

end of play! boom!

Last call to stream — must “close” April 22! —this reading of my adaptation of The Other Jack by @cbeditions.bsky.social. Pope Francis. despite his flaws, he consistently stood for the poor and advocated for those in need and those brutalized by war. he moved the Church into the 21st century against the tides. i pray someone who follows in his footsteps emerges from the conclave but i fear not

dear theatre, casual aside

442 ppl dead this past week in the US. 83,100 new cvd cases. 12,538 ppl dead thus far from cvd this year. while leaders do nothing and businesses pretend everything is fine.

thinking of my play THE WAY OF WATER today, apropos of many things. (for those that know the play, you know)

Reviews of Caryl Churchill’s recent short plays - now on in NY - miss something I think - a writer in her eighties, a pure creature of the theatre, enquiring into her own need to tell stories, why people want them, her responsibility to her characters, & the point of doing it at all

to those that celebrate

Howard Brenton's play PAUL - one of the great ignored 21st c. plays, I think - posits that Jesus survived the crucifixion, laid low, & reappeared in a political move to get Rome to stop killing people. In prison, St Paul & St James can choose to deny Jesus & save themselves or lie/die for good..

dear theatre, lately
