One of my formative memories is reading some short story called something like 'The Altruism Bug' that was, I think, a thinly veiled AIDS callout but also posed the moral problem 'if the bugs in your blood tell you to donate blood, with no harm, and makes you feel good-would you do it' and yeah ofc
