I believe in peer-reviewed science, ethics, respect, integrity, & accountability. Leaders should, too. Common sense is an endangered trait — apparently so is the rule of law in the US. Whisky media in a regrettably dry town.

A little piece of joy.

If you’d like to participate in the first WhiskyCast interactive whisky book/course, “The Craft & Adventure of Making Whisky” it is in our app. Download and use for free at either App Store. Oh, and there’s also great conversation, too. #whisky

Even if Elon leaves Washington, he still leaves with our data and perhaps even backdoors to federal systems. The thing is….he sorta fired everybody who would know if he put backdoors in…

Cory Booker is on fire….

@booker.senate.gov is now conducting the fifth longest speech on the Senate floor. A speech against civil rights shouldn’t be the longest… www.thoughtco.com/longest-fili...

Some things, once harmed, never come back to health.

How is going to be Monday, again?

Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century." snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-les...

What fresh h*ll awaits us today, friends? It’s Friday, so what does the administration want to attempt to hold the weekend news cycle with? Wrong answers and ridiculous theories only…but then again who had texting attack plans on their bingo card last week?

The felon could randomly decide that Canadian Geese were a national threat, & anyone who has feed them needs to disappear… No one is above the law, & everyone has a right to due process. Also, how many armed & hooded people does it take to kidnap a student off the street? Fear is the point.

We should not fall into the “her emails” refrain but keep saying two things in as many ways as possible: 1. This is a criminal act and an inexcusable breach of security; 2. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

The terrorism designation “could give federal and local law enforcement broad authority to surveil people protesting Elon Musk’s role in the government [and] allow Musk and other Tesla executives to access information authorities uncover in their investigations.” www.wired.com/story/fbi-te...

Our egos got in the way of the lessons from our Grandfathers…it can happen here…it is happening here. Lawsuits are great, but what happens when there isn’t a way to enforce the orders?

General question…has anyone read any factual reporting on grad student loans for anyone still able to find a placement?

Republicans snuck a provision into the rule for the CR that would preemptively surrender congressional authority to block tariffs. When House Republicans vote for this rule today, they will also be voting to support Trump's tariffs and all the resulting damage to the US economy

BREAKING: Starting at 6 pm today and through tomorrow, the U.S. Department of Education offices and regional offices will be closed “for security reasons.” Multiple sources shared the email to employees — which doesn’t explain more. Do you have info? Let me + @jsmithrichards.bsky.social know.

Please note that rogue countries, like China, actively monitor and harass dissidents here. This is a trial balloon. If this is OK, there is nothing stopping the Trump admin from handing over “troublemakers” to countries who are “willing to make a deal”

Stay focused!

So Elon has a .who designation??

It's the entire email list for all DOGE employees. Have fun!
