THIS IS HUGE! Researchers have developed a nasal COVID-19 vaccine that BLOCKS transmission of the virus. This suggests vaccines delivered directly to the nose or mouth could play a CRITICAL role in containing the spread of respiratory infections. Phase I clinical trials HAVE BEEN APPROVED! 🧪🧵⬇️

When public services go dark, it's time for the private sector to step up; if anyone in the US is in need of outbreak response testing and support for bacterial or fungal pathogens, Culturewell is here to help. Special discount and prioritization for public health orgs. getculturewell.com #IDSky

This study should be called "Analysis of contamination of brain tissue during the biorepository collection process." I don't think the authors sufficiently prove the existence of a brain microbiome. They just proved that brain samples get contaminated during the collection and preservation process 😬

Candida auris outbreak? For affected patient rooms, trash all linens and curtains. It's too risky to put these back into circulation - we need more evidence that shows that we do not have persistence of C. auris post-laundering.

Candida auris. Hospitals in the US are still using pH neutral floor cleaning products (not disinfectants!) in these rooms. It's time for a change to the requirements: IF (INFECTION)= CLEAN AND DISINFECT THE FLOOR. (Yes, a dreaded 2-step process!)

Bathroom handrails. Regardless of facility type, location, primary disinfectant, these handrails are most often the dirtiest location in a 'clean' patient room. Dedicated training for EVS teams is necessary because cleaning these surfaces effectively is NOT intuitive.

Fun fact: we typically find C. difficile on provider-only surfaces in clean patient rooms. Think workstations and supply cart keypads.
