Would love to read some smart persons analysis of this era of snitching, tattletale, tip-line etc etc and why current forms of reporting and making complaints (like the procedures for civil rights complaints) are deemed not useful for these ghouls. @jamellebouie.net

My therapist says it’s okay to trade obsessive doom scrolling for a new all-encompassing hyperfixation creative hobby even if you similarly ignore your personal needs like groceries, laundry, the like Apropos of nothing, I sewed my very first dress ever this weekend

"This ... cannot be viewed in isolation. More than anything, this ‘transformation’ – presented under the rhetoric of modernisation and AI-readiness – represents a troubling shift in the power dynamics between academic libraries and commercial providers, especially those who hold (near) monopolies."

Weird, my rep here stated in a virtual town hall LAST WEEK that Trump likes to make small statements, act like it’s nbd, & repeat them as a way of normalization. Dan literally said it was what he learned about T from serving on the 1st impeachment. Dan knows this isn’t simply meant to distract.

Here’s a site that tracks how much of Project 2025 has been implemented. Currently at 34%. (via @jennileder.bsky.social) [project2025.observer]

I’m not cut out to bear witness to so much selfish cruelty and so much needless suffering. None of us are. This is spirit murder in action and it dehumanizes us all.

The Cntrl-F Coup is the dumbfuckingest thing to have to live through.

I know the rules won’t apply to anyone to anyone at the top, but did everyone forget that Ts first White House could have been ZOOTED at any given time. media.defense.gov/2024/Jan/09/...

Anyone know of any efforts to save/duplicate the frustratingly disparate federal FOIA digital libraries for the various agencies?

"With the click of a button, censors can wipe out access to crucial resources for hundreds of thousands of people at once... because of one person’s complaint." Our new report on digital censorship is out. www.libraryfutures.net/censorship

So irked by that axios piece re: Dems whining about their constituents asking them to do something, & that Ritchie Torres of all, is offended that folks don’t think the Dems are doing enough. Have an ounce of reflection If your voters don’t see you it’s bc you’re not doing what’s needed to be seen.

The virtual town hall w/ my house rep was interesting 🙃 Dems whole plan is litigation/using the courts - an obvious problem when appeals lead to the Supreme Court. also, they have no idea for sure WHAT musk has or hasn’t done bc probable cause/ search and seizure doesn’t exist at that level I guess?

My house rep is having a virtual town hall today and I might ask him this exact question. It seems like THE question, right? Checks, balances, yada yada

For the Education researchers, this is the arm of the DoEd that funds and maintains ERIC #edresearch

Things I did this weekend instead of doom scroll: •went to the laundromat (a week behind schedule 😬) •took a nap •watched the snowfall •bitched about the snowblower being used at 4am at the school on a Sunday •read for class •went to the grocery store •cooked •tidied up •watched a movie

Called my house rep’s DC office today and asked a lovely staffer what he has done to respond to the administrative coup currently taking place. Answer: He has made a statement in committee, co-written a letter, and co-sponsored a bill. They are not up for the challenge.

Unfortunately, these last 2 weeks have proved that doom scrolling makes me feel actively bad and makes my brain not work. I’ve been flailing for days. Equally loathe to report that finally cleaning up my apartment after two weeks of living like a slob goblin actually made me feel much better.

It’s a dessert first kind of evening.

I am this*close to losing my shit *space big enough for a soup dumpling

I can’t believe libraries are still doing this! Even after Latanya literally DIED because her library wouldn’t let her use her sick days. Please sign this petition, and remember that no job loves you back. Take care of yourselves out there! bit.ly/sickbankpetition

Omg!!!! The way I would have RAN across the neighborhood if I had seen this sooner. A 15 minute walk and I could have had the answer to the question we all want “WHY ARENT YOU IN WASHINGTON CHUCK?????”

I emailed Gillibrand yesterday but I guess I’m going to have to call her office too. This is unconscionable.

All the folks who like to think the “internet is an archive” are gonna find out really quick why that isn’t true re: federal data/govt pages disappearing. Gonna be real hard to study those documents if they aren’t recovered (shout out to internet archive for doing their part)

Well! The doom starts coming and it won’t stop coming. Back to the newsfeed because I can’t stop scrolling.

AAUP-NYU has issued a report about the egregious correspondence between NYU President Linda Mills and Elizabeth Rand (founder of the anti-Palestinian group MACA), which threatens academic freedom and reflects gross corruption of NYU procedures

decided to write my reps tonight and practically BEG them to act like an opposition party. I can’t say it’ll help (my senator is literally Schumer 🤡) but it felt good to be like DO SOMETHING! @aoc.bsky.social can you hit up Schumer and Goldman in the group chat and tell them to check their email?

The founder of Mothers Against College Antisemitism says her 62,000-member Facebook group is influencing NYU policy.

Would love to know what the general council of any university - especially the one I work for, but everyone else’s too - is doing right now. Where are the amicus briefs?? Like at least?? “Wait and see” is not going to work. They’ve had months to prepare and reckon with the fact we are a target.

My husband, who does freelance photo/video work was offered a career-affirming gig that is now in complete limbo bc it was for a community oriented initiative that was federally funded. Congress needs to learn to tell better stories about how our tax dollars are spent. They also need ACT.

I was lured into a pet store because of the MOST precious kitten was being playful in the window and now my old man Dublin has a banana.
