ONTARIANS: today is the day!! GO VOTE!!! EVERYONE ELSE: wish my lovely husband @tiomoid.bsky.social a happy birthday! šŸŽ‰

ONTARIO, SEND HIM A MESSAGE!!!!! SHOW THIS LOWLIFE THUG HE IS NOT A KING!!!!! VOTE TOMORROW LIKE YOUR PROVINCE'S FUTURE DEPENDS ON IT!!!!!! (oh wait, it does)

Canada has to seize this moment to dramatically increase our own ability to produce vaccines domestically and fill the void left by the FDA. I hope the federal government is working on this, but I fear they are not.

when federal and provincial governments attack canadian higher ed, they dramatically weaken one of the best assets canada can offer the world at the exact moment that trump is gutting US higher ed: an alternative home for the world's leading research. so much for resisting trump eh?

unbelievable to me (as a CUNY alum) that anyone could accuse CUNY of antisemitism. CUNY is famously the university that admitted all of new york's best and brightest jews at a point in history when the ivies wanted none of them. when I attended in 2000s/2010s, half the profs in my dept were jewish.

if only these cockatoos could use an oven, they'd be sure to invent noodle kugel next.... (I personally do not condone kugels in any form, just pointing out that humans do sometimes eat sweet-flavoured noodles)

just caught myself trying to look up the cast of white lotus on IMSLP. send help.

today I trudged over to my riding's returning office to cast my vote in the Ontario provincial election, even though I didn't feel well. much to my surprise, there was actually a lineup to vote!! I hope this means turnout for this sham election will be up and the conservatives' votes will be down.

I have had to go to the Ottawa General Hospital about 10 times in the last month due to multiple family health crises. if I go around lunchtime, the demand for parking is so high that cars are lined up down multiple blocks waiting for one vehicle at a time to leave the full lot.

yesterday, the day after a huge snowstorm across the province, google maps tried to tell me to take highway 7 (a small one-lane-each-direction highway) instead of highway 401 (the large main highway that's prioritized for snow clearance) because it is more "fuel efficient" to take highway 7.

my week: Monday 9aā€“5p: work 9pā€“11p: draft community play scenes Tuesday 9aā€“5p: work 6pā€“7p: meet to draft marketing for community play 7pā€“9p: meet to workshop community play Wednesday 9aā€“5p: work 6pā€“7:30p: jazz combo rehearsal 9:30pā€“12:30a: draft conference presentation I may have overcommitted.

the path to 21st-century american expansionism was paved with freedom fries

tfw you are so bad at your religion the pope has to personally call you out in a public letter

not even one week into that one-month pause and he's already threatening more tariffs starting tomorrow. tired of americans telling me to calm down about shit.

Ottawans also want you to know it is colder and snowier in Ottawa than Toronto at any given moment

nightmare material šŸ„¶

I can barely believe that three years ago, I was just beginning the process to move back to canada from the US. I never felt totally at home in the US, and I often felt like my american friends just didn't quite "get" me. I can't imagine the level of alienation I'd feel if I were still there now.

wanna know why canadians are still cancelling their vacations to the US and shifting as much spending as possible away from the US? it's because a majority of you idiots down south still approve of what he's doing. sorry, americans on bluesky, but you gotta come get the rest of your country.

some asshole from Georgia has parked his cybertruck at a bus stop on ossington and I hope he soon receives a huge fine and/or an ass-kicking

big brain move: put contacts in before leaving the house so you can wear sunglasses to reduce glare from all the fresh snow >>>>> forget sunglasses at home šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

did I miss any?

I mentioned the other day how we need to watch Canadian and that people should start with North of North and 1) it turns out I'm not the only one who thinks so, but 2) you know this writer has the goods bc they name check the NFB short the cat came back, a core millennial Canadian childhood memory

update: my upstairs neighbour once again came outside while I was shovelling, I asked him if he could maybe do the shovelling once in a while, he flipped out, got super defensive, accused me of being passive aggressive, and hurled some insults at me about my relationship.
