This wasn't the point of @marisakabas.bsky.social latest piece, but just a stark reminder that the New York Times really is unsaveable.

86 children and 19000 adults have died from flu this season in the U.S. and that's with a vaccine. If we have no vaccines come September these numbers will increase. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

This is money already owed. For work already done. They’re asking SCOTUS to let Trump run the government the way he runs his businesses.

Only 16 percent of Americans think Elon Musk should have a lot of influence in the Trump administration. Only 29 percent of Republicans think so. today.yougov.com/politics/art...

BREAKING: DOD issued its new military policy today banning transgender military service, implementing President Trump's anti-trans military executive order The policy was filed tonight on the docket in the case challenging the EO: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

To challenge segregation at McKenney Central Library in Petersburg, Virginia, African American college students bravely held a sit-in. Many were arrrested. They organized more sit-ins. Elected reps & others could do same today -- in federal buildings & more. www.zinnedproject.org/news/tdih/mc...

"The richest man in the world is destroying our democracy and cutting programs that benefit regular people so that he can have more money, and he already has more money than everybody on planet Earth." @zerlinamaxwell.bsky.social joins Tim Miller: www.thebulwark.com/p/ruben-gall...

'Personal Liberties Includes The Liberty to Change One's Gender' - the fastest rejected pitch to the Washington Post's opinion page of all time, rejected by Jeff Bezos after 0.000037 seconds while he screamed 'UNACCEPTABLE' in a pitch high enough to shatter glass.

Downplaying the first Measles death in a decade — a Texas child — and lying that outbreaks aren't "unusual" is just the start of the terrible grief that RFK Jr. will inflict on this nation as HHS secretary.

CALL FIRST THING

I think this is part of things that's going somewhat underappreciated. Trump is liking the fact that Elon is doing the work part of being President. Trump wants the title, and the power, but he doesn't want to actually have to deal with the daily mechanics of the job.

It is really hard to watch people willfully tear down an infrastructure that allowed us to double lifespans, drastically reduce poverty, and become one of the richest countries in the world.

This news is bad but I appreciate the way it is delivered like "This that and the other," said a Lying Motherfucker, lyingly.

Trump and Musk claim they’re saving billions through DOGE’s mass purge of federal bureaucracy. Instead, the administration has spent $710 billion in its first month, nearly a billion more than Joe Biden.

This doesn’t exist and will literally save $0

How’s this WSJ take aging

A cool thing: starting Sat and running through April, you can buy my first book -- Unsportsmanlike Conduct: College Football and the Politics of Rape -- from the bookstore in the Central Library in downtown Austin. I should go ahead and sign those copies, huh? www.akashicbooks.com/catalog/unsp...

When it comes to boycotting, just a thought. It’s okay if you can’t quit a company cold turkey. In Master Gardeners, when we encourage people to switch to native plants, the goal is 70% native, not 100%. If you were shopping at a store 80% of the time and cut it back to 60%, that 20% still hurts.

RFK at his confirmation hearing: “I am not anti-vaccine” After RFK confirmed as HHS head: - CDC flu vaccine campaign pulled - Childhood vaccine schedule reviewed - Federal funding to schools with COVID vaccine mandates withdrawn - Meeting to update flu vaccines cancelled

my superpower for predicting things? paying attention to what people with power say and do

BREAKING: DOJ goes to SCOTUS over order that State/USAID pay owed contracts by the end of the day. This is coming out of Judge Ali’s Feb. 13 TRO, which he ordered the government to adhere to — with a deadline — in a new order issued on Tuesday.

If your rep won't do a town hall, set one up yourself, invite the community, and call in your local news to cover their absence.

🧵This. If an elected doesn't hold townhalls, do like @indivisible.org & go to their offices with a few friends. -Tell your local paper (of any size) when & where you'll be -Take a lot of pictures & post to social -Write a letter to the editor* of that paper about what happened *LTE tips, next! 1/

Apparently Trump is making noises about invading Afghanistan again.

Blackstone is dumping big parts of their residential real estate holdings, Microsoft is getting out of various AI projects, the Tesla bubble is barely holding on… I feel like 2008 is gonna seem like a blip

RFK’s reign of death is beginning.

That sounds nice

These stories amount to "the left was so annoying about pronouns or liberals made people feel so guilty about plastic straws they had no choice but to get on board with the second coming of the Third Reich and the destruction of the planet."

☘️🇮🇪 Costco I have some questions 🇮🇹🍀

The reporting on the trans travel visa ban is criminal. It does NOT only affect transgender athletes. The cables CLEARLY say it affects all trans people. They can reject visas on point 6 of anyone who is requesting a visa that does not match their assigned sex at birth.

Five alarm fire. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

Absolutely devastating. I’ve been a fan of Michelle Trachtenberg for almost my entire life, and we were both supposed to turn 40 this year. All of my love to her family and friends 💜

Every member of Congress — Republican and Democrat, House and Senate — should hold a live, in-person town hall in their district this week.

Bezos is not acting out of fear. He is participating in a political project that benefits him. This distinction is important.

Or with the almost-finished SARS vaccine that was shelved in 2016, which potentially could have prevented the covid pandemic entirely www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

“And I think the company should be incredibly appreciative of the people in this room…” Narrator: this is not a company, but a government.

Ffs 😒😒😒

ok so what gets called "gender ideology" is jsut like "be who and how you want" and what gets called "not ideology" is like "follow these specific unwritten rules and perform these forbidden rituals according to the circumstances of your birth"
