Got a couple of other things to do first but have verbal agreement from one of works SMT to do an MSc funded by them. Great news, but remind me of the long buried desire to get research published. Maybe even PhD by research. Unsure if it's a worthy goal, or distraction from my chosen profession.

Felt like shit all day, then noted just before bed that I hadn't eaten since breakfast and had spent the afternoon before my watch in the lower hold helping to destore. 2 ibuprofen, 1 litre of squash, a gammon steak, and a banana later and I'm an entirely different person. Self care is important.

Car carrier has just gone NUC a few miles south of us. Listening to the radio traffic between them and the CG it shouldn't end up like the Grimaldi one a couple of days ago though. Really don't want to have to wake up my Captain with the news we need to break out the sonar and wreck hunt.

New cadet saw my t-shirt, then asked for clarification on what Magneto was right about. Then not only recognised Green Day, but knew enough lyrics to sing along quietly as they were on the helm. The kids are alright.

Six years ago, while on shore leave, I accidentally stumbled across this lovely place while hunting some shade. As per the poem/song I'd not been expecting there to be any actual memorial, just the display in the little museum in the old fort. Doesn't look like he's wrecked much.
