I remember seeing video replies for stuff like contests too

I just keep wanting to make videos loosely based on things previous video essays have brought up, but don't wanna come off as vaguely derivative. Video responses are the perfect clear indicator that yes, this things was meant to be derivative. No ambiguity.

October was when I went my first time to Japan! Weather-wise, it was definitely good.

Honestly I didn't even know youtubers "pivoting" to video essays as if they were the hip new thing was uh... a thing. But I heard at least one person talk about video essays in that context, so it must be true

100% serious: down for a group trip there some time.

I will say streaming has done a good job normalizing captions for all things in multiple languages, so that's a pretty big win.

I have a few older DVDs that use the old style captions. Not ideal tbh since it still skips a line or two. But yes, I feel like we've advanced enough to have competent enough captions on TV (don't watch enough to know if they're a thing, but they should be)

I played the hell out of Battlezone and Asteroids on Windows 95. Probably not direct ports of the Atari versions, but mentally I still make the Atari connection.

I relate that term too much to the white text on black rectangles on network TV that would work half the time.

I feel like every Toonami-associated project just gets a collected sigh and an apathetic "we'll see how this one goes" from anyone that notices it

On a meta level, I don't like The Substance because it got normie movie people to watch body horror with a message it wears on its sleeve. Ma'am, that's just sicko-level anime, and yet you still won't watch sicko-level anime.

It's also directed too over-the-top and on-the-nose. Which you'd think I'd be into since that's basically anime, but idk... no.

Just call it anime Garfield, guys. If not in name, do some kind of coy reference to him. Trust me, I know what weebs like (Garfield, they like Garfield)

Lots of different teasers for season 2 in those last few minutes, plus one they didn't hint at before. From what I understand, giving Peter's parents any kind of backstory has been kinda boring/dumb both in the movies and comics, but I trust FNSM to finesse something out of it.

Expectations for the finale: Standard falling action plot beats
Reality: An episode that felt like a season 2 teaser, only for the twist to be it was more of a prequel than anything (sounds bad on paper, but they made it work)

So much of the series is a slight remix on the MCU Spider-Man, which yeah I get. Just didn't think the references would go as far up as the No Way Home movie.

I will always be a sucker for the unlikely villain(?)/hero team-up. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is anime in English.

Yeah I figured they'd Surf Dracula the original suit for one of the last episodes. Still, seeing the Ditko style on it fully animated is so 🤌🏽✨

Kinda love this recent trend of Otto and Osborn competing over who can be the pettiest bitch possible

Pearl with the most Filipino last name ever, let's go?! Between her and Ned in the movies, I find it hilarious Peter having a Filipino friend has become a canon consistency regardless of the iteration.

Octavius escaping a raid while his diegetic playlist plays feels like something influenced by Breaking Bad. Everything about Doc Ock is great this season, even if he isn't a major villain (yet)

Having Pete get stabbed in his Future Foundation suit was definitely intentional. The contrast of the white on red is super unnerving. Also, Pete getting saved by the Goblin's glider emanates such alt-world fanfiction energy (non-pejorative)

Spoilers: he just kills this one nameless background henchman. The anime reaction shots were nice, though.

These are either Pearl death flags or a subversion, and Lonnie death flags, you can't set things up like this and not have Scorpion not kill anyone
