There’s nothing like seeing your new bk in the @uchicagopress.bsky.social catalogue! “Last Artist Standing: Living & Sustaining a Creative Life Over 50” is out in April & on a natl conversation tour discussing longevity, persistence, lack of retirement, healthcare & security for artists. Stay tuned.

And the more of us who are seen in masks in everyday life, the harder it is for fascists to convince the masses that bans are acceptable. Also, if we disabled folk are ALONE in masking, it acts as a "scarlet letter" that fash use as a signal to attack us.

If you’re in the disability justice world, you should be following the new @blackdisabilityins.bsky.social account. So many good things ahead and you’re gonna wanna be in the loop!

For those who aren't aware, California was still coercing sterilizations as recently as 2013. Reproductive rights are a racial issue and a black lives matter issue. www.pbs.org/newshour/nat...

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote. There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

After 3 surgeries, a blood clot, infection & being hospitalized for over a week, the moment I was discharged I rushed to the airport so I could get on a plane to DC & vote NO on Republicans’ disastrous budget plan. Rep. Pettersen traveled from Colorado with her newborn son so she could vote NO. 🧵

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt 🧵on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT

Alright friends, we're about to lose the vote on the budget resolution. We WILL keep fighting. This is the first vote they need to take, it is not the last. They will have to come back in a couple of months for another vote with firm numbers they're cutting SNAP and Medicaid and Medicare by.

Cutting Medicare and Medicaid is wildly unpopular. That's why they're trying to jam these draconian cuts through right out of the starting blocks, before the American people tune into what's happening. We need to buy time.

Agreed, I was skeptical of the "we're all in this together" and "we keep us safe" stuff but I also had some hope too. I wanted my cynicism to be wrong, I wanted to believe that all of the people who preached about "protecting the vulnerable" actually meant it.

"$880 billion in Medicaid cuts" is just erasing Medicaid entirely. It's more than the total the federal government spent on Medicaid in Fiscal Year 2023. Source: KFF www.kff.org/medicaid/iss...

Texas becomes the latest State to propose a mask ban. These are ugly laws. They’re discriminatory & push disabled people further out of society. They increase the likelihood of police harassment. They paint maskers as “bad”. There’s an excellent document with scripts for how to call & fight back!

Gonna keep stressing that you should take advantage of every possible opportunity you can to gather with others over the next few years. These can be virtual and/or in person. Go to events, protests, workshops, meetings. Enhance your organizing skills and practice them how you can.

If you have a device that CAN run Apple Intelligence you need to turn this off as well as the general Apple Intelligence setting. Settings > Screen Time > scroll down to Content and Privacy > turn on Restrictions > Intelligence and Siri > turn off the first three options

If you want to defend Medicaid, at this point in time, the key thing to understand is that reaching out to your federal elected via phone or in-person interaction, is key.

There are so many places I’ve had to stop and gasp. “[W]as that deliberate, so the cameras wouldn’t record the land telling the truth by mistake.”

If the SAVE Act is signed into law, active duty service members and married women would not be able to vote because the verbiage of the bill does not accept name change forms, marriage licenses, military IDs, or even RealIDs (which everyone in Louisiana had to get). Tribal IDs wouldnt count either

Judith Butler: "Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic, because that means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice, and a third, a fourth, and then what happens?"

I want to say again to academics who are interested in public writing. Look locally. Sure national outlets are good and I do that too, but this kind of visibility in your community can have a real impact.

remove data sow doubt in vaccines charge for them remove telehealth access terminate disease funding stigmatize then & masks get you sicker and sicker because it’s cheaper for them if you die don’t you see? now are you ready to protect your & your communities health? fortune.com/2025/02/19/a...

Dear friends🥹🙏 We are very close to achieving a part of our goal as we need to reach €4,000. If 20 people could each donate €20 we would achieve 20% of our target. Your support means the world to me and my brother Amir. Please stand with us🥹🙏💔 Verified by @mommunism.bsky.social 🔗 gofund.me/edb4225e

CTA — Call Your Congressperson and Urge Them To Vote Against the House Budget Resolution Being Voted on Next Week It is 11PM on Thursday night and an email from a high ranking Hill healthcare staffer has just hit my inbox: Medicaid faces an "existential" vote in the House, probably Tuesday...

Keep making art, my friends. Write, draw, paint, sing, play. And keep enjoying the art of others. Indulge in things that bring you joy. It's how you survive and it's what makes fighting so important. Fight as much as you can, but don't forsake joy.

If you are a cis person *please* take 2 minutes to do this. Trans people with non-updated gender markers, historical gender marker changes, and X markers are terrified to travel right now; rolling back this policy would mean a lot.

just fyi this quietly happened at the end of 2024 during the biden administration. congress could have passed a longer term extension of the ARA and they did not. i absolutely agree that this is going to kill people and that is on both administrations’ hands

Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion in 2021, ProPublica found in a first-of-its-kind data analysis. The rate of sepsis shot up more than 50% for women hospitalized when they lost their pregnancies in the second trimester.

Thread. Compare the news about the jungle camp in Panama, and think about how difficult it's going to be to get consistent, accurate news when the abductees are held captive in such remote locations.

At the core of transphobia is the belief that men are inherently superior to women. It's the reason fascists and evangelical fundamentalists embrace it so wholeheartedly.

White racists don’t fear much about being openly racist because they know most white people wont do anything and until that reality changes Nothing will change

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths

After publishing this story, which features a picture of the protest at Children's National in DC, I have been informed that moments ago, Childrens National in DC has resumed transgender care. The hospital protests worked! Keep doing them!

Some of us knew this was on the horizon when we pleaded with our academic employers not to impose antidemocratic "time, place and manner" guidelines that forced students to identify themselves in public protest. Some of us said, quite clearly, that this was fascism. We were ignored.
