I seek guidance. For my design projects, I have wanted to buy a drawing tablet (with a screen). Any recommendations?

ICYMI my chat with @beyondsolitaire.bsky.social and @danthurot.bsky.social about our favorite games of 2024 where we seldom stayed on topic was an absolute blast. There will be updates on Penitent and the GDDD podcast next week.

Reminder: SD HistCon Winter Quarters begins in the wee hours of Saturday, Feb. 8. There will be tons of great seminars and demos from the likes of @volko.bsky.social @mildamatildagames.bsky.social @beyondsolitaire.bsky.social @djackthompson.bsky.social & more tabletop.events/conventions/...

Getting texts from folks receiving IN THE SHADOWS has been really satisfying. Even after having a handful of published games, I have never seen my designs in an American store or on banner ads, so this is pretty special to me.

Why not join me tonight for The Gaming Gang Dispatch and a live unboxing of In the Shadows from @gmtgames.bsky.social? Plus tabletop gaming news from @goodmangames.bsky.social #PulpHummock #AnvilStarStudios and more. Streaming at 8pm ET/7pm CT/5pm PT. #Wargames #TTRPGs 🧐 youtube.com/watch?v=CS5U...

Two favorite prototypes that I *played* last year were Volko’s Drachen, about ISR in WW1 with a narrative arc akin to your favorite heist film. The other, Taylor Shuss’ Love Potion Factory design, an elegant worker placement game. I have spent 10x more time talking about it than I spent playing it.

When people say you haven’t paid your dues, they mean you haven’t paid theirs.

How do you define meanness in the framework of fair play? What is a “mean” game you enjoy?

Hi History Educators. Some'd be delighted to know a website on using historical video games in history education (and historical game studies) exists, has existed for 14 years, and is full of a lot of relevant all free) (amplifications appreciated; I think a lot of interested folk just don't know)

Design iteration, a 🧵: I have been reviewing notes from my design FRUIT which began in March. The prototype was created during a 12-day design sprint, so it had plenty of sharp edges during early tests. Early plays were extremely long. The game is a CDG with a draft and an action menu.

Taylor is an incredibly talented designer. His prototype was my favorite game played at SD HistCon in November. Seek him out!

I want to track down new historical games that I haven't already played. What are some of your favorite historical games that came out this year?

Has anyone else felt like they could use a five-year break from trick-taking games?
