Wowza! The amount of progress you can make when the whole team finally *sees* the game and then you've just got a prioritized list of 5 billion obvious fixes to chew through.

"Now that everyone has expressed strong opinions with no willingness to compromise, I'm in the awkward position of having to make a decision that will make no one happy. 🤠"

We are beavers who dreamed too big

Jesus, you can't escape MF Gemini aka Clippy Gone Rogue. Flip a tab and "Hello, I'm here too." New horror villain. "Would you like me to summarize your life?"

Whose job is it to say "But that doesn't look like sonic the hedgehog"? Whose job is it to say "But that doesn't look like a hedgehog"?

Watching Blue Prince stream makes realize A. I'm not that smart in the way other people are smart. B. I really don't enjoy puzzles. Whatever that 'aha' moment other people get when they solve someone else's puzzle is instead this soul deadening feeling of emptiness. Like my life is being wasted.

Some of my best ideas come from looking at a popular game and thinking 'wow, that's not how my brain works at all'. Which, honestly, is most games. And then imagining how to make a version of the game that was more enjoyable for my weird tastes.

"When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look, but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown, the dream is gone"

A feature just got prototyped inspired by the Jump to Conclusions mat. Game dev, baby! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho7j...

Wow, Gemini is f'ing annoying. They really ramped that BS up in Google Docs. Heaven forbid you know what you want to write.

BearChess(tm): Play like a bear. Rules are for chumps.

I work so hard to be boring. Kind of exhausting.

Me trying to explain religious denominations: "So like every local church basically keeps their own fan wiki of what lore is canon"

Why do the cats only bother me? Because I'm the sucker.

hey, i find info about topic X is hard to find on our team. i know there's a confluence page for it, but i don't read confluence. there's an email distro & meeting series about it but my religion forbids meetings and i am illiterate. there's also the local pigeon carrier network, but i hate pigeons,

While everyone else plays Blue Prince, I find myself engaged with the more intellectually demanding pursuit of The Plucky Squire.

Delighted to have an essay up at DAS VIDEOSPIEL, a new games journal from The Evergreen Review (first journal to debut Pinter, Sontag, Malcom X, Burroughs...)! It's about how we need to move beyond the concept of agency when we think about the appeal of games and immersive experiences...

1) Tightly scoped projects, with identified and specific needs 2) Everyone works part-time 3) Paying people above this rate, sometimes significantly 4) …I don’t budget in myself yet. I live off of backend, which with our stable of releases has worked out so far (but I want to eventually address)

"A little bit slow" That's my motto "A little bit slow" They said in sotto

Chance of scheduling a meeting increases dramatically if there are less than 4 participants. link.springer.com/article/10.1... FWIW, 4 participants also happens to be the maximum number of people you can have in a true conversation (it changes into broadcast-style turn-taking above this number)

It’s been neat to see Nintendo crank out “impossible games” since the release Switch Games that can’t be made at AAA fidelity, but also can’t be made at an indie development scale

Well holy heck I can actually participate in a Portfolio Day for once! I'm Hazel! I'm a realtime tech & VFX artist with plenty of experience using Unreal, Unity, Godot, & more. (you can see more of my stuff at hazelstagner.gay) #gamedev #vfx #porfolioday

The most depressing newsletter I get is @ichiro.bsky.social's list of hidden gems. Game after game with 90+% ratings that have stalled out with a couple hundred reviews. Good games, even beloved games, often with solid production values. Forever lost in the endless ocean of content.

I wish all podcasts came with transcripts to I could get through them in 1/10th the time. (I guess Apple has it, but not via the website? Should just be an easy link on every single podcast)

In practice, AI executes at the same abstraction level that executives hold about the world, their customers and their business.

Today's music. If I recall, this song is all about being a game developer www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UXi...
