Don Hutson didn't just catch 17 TD passes for the #Packers in 1942 -- an #NFL record that stood for 42 years -- he also kicked the extra point after 16 of them. That mark *still* stands. You know who's closest to him? Another Packer, Paul Hornung, who booted 15 PATS after his own TDs in 1960.

I'd like to talk about tonight's firing of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in sports terms. This is the equivalent of Josh Harris firing Head Coach Dan Quinn and replacing him with retired Maryland basketball coach Mark Turgeon Oh, and the Commanders will now be besties with the Cowboys.

Still cleaning up on the 2024 #NFL season. This was the 4th time 2 RBs have gained 2,000 yards rushing in the same year (playoffs included). Saquon Barkley (2,504) & Derrick Henry (2,191), of course, did the honors. The other duos: #Eagles #Ravens

I can’t remember where I read this, but it’s important: Why is it that when people think about traveling to the past, they worry about doing something small that will drastically change the present, but no one in the present thinks that doing something small today can drastically change the future?

US Supreme Court rules 6-3 that poisoning your rival is an official act.

When the goal posts were up or near the goal line in the old days, well, you can understand why defensive players considered them the 12th & 13th players on the field. #Lions #Browns

Check out the 2 players back to receive a KO for the #Browns in the '57 #NFL title game. Left: Jim Brown, one of the greatest athletes the league has ever seen. Right: Milt Campbell, the decathlon gold medalist in the '56 Olympics. That's all. 😂

A go route to the 400-foot sign at Briggs Stadium in the 1957 #NFL title game. Tobin Rote's pass to Howard "Hopalong" Cassady was broken up by the #Browns' Warren Lahr, & the #Lions had to settle for a FG.

See No. 72 with his back to the camera? That's the #Eagles' Jess Richardson, & he's the last DL in the #NFL to play without a facemask. Even more remarkable, he never lost a tooth. His teammate, Tommy McDonald, was the last to go facemaskless in 1968. The '60 title game is underrated. . . .

Who doesn't want to see a photo of #Giants HOFer Sam Huff bearhugging a ball carrier -- in this case the #Steelers' Tom Tracy -- in 1958? Especially since the cutline in the Norfolk VA Ledger-Dispatch identifies him as "Larry Huff." In his 3rd season, no less! His 1st 2 names, btw, were Robert Lee.

Among the many things missing from #NFL coverage nowadays is photos of players hiking the ball to their 2-year-old kids. This is #Giants Pro Bowl DB Lindon Crow snapping to Lindon Jr. in 1958.

Variations of the T formation you might see in a college or #NFL football game in 1958:

Chuck Bednarik (60) didn't just play the full 60 minutes in the 1960 #NFL championship game, he also recovered a #Packers fumble at the #Eagles 48 in the 4th quarter (left), then walked to the offensive huddle & lined up at center for the next play (right).

Safety Don Burroughs (45) making off with the game ball after the #Eagles beat the #Packers at Franklin Field for the 1960 #NFL title.

The football is the planned fight on the first snap.

Been watching 1960 #NFL title game highlights. Here's the #Eagles' Ted Dean (35) returning a KO 58 yards in the 4th quarter (L screenshot), scoring on a game-winning 5-yard sweep a few plays later & then kicking off. Not sure there's been another sequence like that in *any* playoff game. Ever.

#Packers legend Max McGee catching a TD pass vs. the #Eagles in the 1960 #NFL title game & vs. the #Chiefs 6 years later in Super Bowl I. Could it possibly have been the same slant route? The 1st one measured 7 yards, the 2nd 13.

Here's HOF QB Sonny Jurgensen (9) in his only #NFL title game in 1960 -- holding for #Eagles K Bobby Walston. Norm Van Brocklin did the quarterbacking for Philly that day. #Commanders

#Eagles WR Tommy McDonald caught this pass from Norm Van Brocklin at the Green Bay 7 in the 1960 #NFL title game & ran it in for a TD. Look at how deep he was in the end zone when #Packers FS Johnny Symank decided to unload on him. Gotta be 4 yards. '60s #NFL football, folks!

The strangest White House in history.

A child stood in the Oval Office and told the President of the United States to shut up and that he wasn’t the President and it’s not even a blip in the news cycle. Kids repeat what they hear.

On average, RBs who have rushed for 2,000 yards in an #NFL season have rushed for 1,079 (!!!) the next year. 1,491 Barry Sanders 1,364 Chris Johnson 1,266 Adrian Peterson 1,234 Eric Dickerson 1,125 O.J. 1,006 Jamal Lewis 937 Derrick Henry 211 Terrell Davis Where will Saquon Barkley fall? #Eagles

Was wondering how often a back-to-back #NFL champ has been followed by another back-to-back champ -- as the #Eagles will be trying to do next season. The most recent instance was 50 years ago. See: 1972-73 #Dolphins 1974-75 #Steelers 1952-53 #Lions 1954-55 #Browns Pretty rare.

Looks like that 55-0 run by the #Eagles in the playoffs -- the last 21 points in the NFC title game, the 1st 34 in the Super Bowl -- is the biggest in a single postseason since the #Bears demolished Washington 73-0 in the '40 #NFL title game. Next come: 2013 #Seahawks: 49 1983 Washington: 48

Almost forgot: The 1960-62 #Packers also would have won 3 #NFL titles in a row . . . if the Eagles hadn't beaten them in the '60 championship game. Pro football's all-time spoilers.

I see Kellen Moore has sewn up the #Saints coaching job. Which raises 2 questions: 1. Who's the best former #NFL QB since the 1970 merger to become an NFL head coach? (Jim Harbaugh?) 2. Which former NFL QB since the merger has been the most successful NFL head coach? (Harbaugh? Gary Kubiak?)

Fascinating that the #Eagles got in the way of the #Patriots winning 3 straight Super Bowls, then did it again to the #Chiefs. Since the 1965-67 #Packers won 3 #NFL titles in a row, those are arguably the 2 teams that came closest to a 3-peat.

With the #NFL offseason -- & its attendant Quarterback Panic --- upon us, thought I'd throw together a list of QBs who didn't reach the Super Bowl until their 30s & won it on their 1st try. Sometimes bailing out on a guy isn't the answer. Sometimes it just takes time. #Bucs #Rams #Commanders #49ers

Love record chronologies, btw, because they remind you of all the guys you've forgotten who once held a particular mark. Do you think even Terry Bradshaw knows he once owned the Super Bowl record for rushing yards by a QB (with 33 yards, less than half Jalen Hurts' new record of 72)? #Eagles

Another Super Bowl first last night: It was the first time both QBs led their teams in rushing -- Jalen Hurts with 72 (a SB record for a QB), Patrick Mahomes with 25. The QBs who have done it: #Eagles #Chiefs

Amazing that Don Chandler set this record in Super Bowl II, kicking the old-fashioned way with the front of his foot, & it had stood all these years. It was the last game of his #NFL career. Played in 7 #NFL title games in the pre-Super Bowl era, then 2 Super Bowls. In 12 seasons! #Packers #Eagles

Among other things, Jalen Hurts last night became just the 8th QB to start 2 or more Super Bowls in his 1st 5 #NFL seasons. His numbers compare pretty well vs. the other members of the club. Passer rating: 109.4 (3rd) Rushing yards/TDs: 142/4 (1st by far) #Eagles #Patriots #Cowboys #Broncos #Chiefs

If an NFL coach gives me all the credit for his Super Bowl win, the least he can do is send me a ring.

Jeffrey Lurie has been as great an owner in Philly as Dan Snyder was a horrific owner in Washington. It's just incredible the contrast. Opposite ends of the spectrum. #Eagles #Commanders

Kenny Pickett right now is telling reporters, "I always wanted to rush for minus-4 yards in the Super Bowl." 😂 #Eagles

The three 2-time defending #NFL champs that got to the #NFL title game & lost -- before Lombardi's #Packers reeled off three in a row from 1965 to '67. And now the #Chiefs will join them. Hey, at least they didn't lose 56-10 like the '54 #Lions!

This is what you might call a Harrison Buttkicking. #SuperBowl

Running a pick play down 40-6 in the #SuperBowl is one of the all-timers. #Chiefs #Eagles

As #Packers great Jerry Kramer once put it, "Winning one #NFL title is hard, winning two straight is really difficult, and winning 3 in a row is an absolute bitch." #SuperBowl #Packers #Chiefs #Eagles
