Useful for US-based/focused conversations. Similar conversation in Canada but with different federal terminology. I had a non-Native academic a few years ago in Canada get after me (and my UAlberta Faculty of NATIVE Studies) for using the word "Native" instead of "Indigenous." Don't be that guy.

Carl Sagan is mistaken on astrology, but is it his fault when so many astrologers don't seek to clearly and concisely explain what they do? Still, I would say that skepticism without curiosity is an easy way to miss the most wonderful parts of life.

it's frustrating to read words like "unprecedented" as a Native Studies scholar, when I regularly read about things like children kidnapped from their families and forcibly re-educated in church and government-run schools where they were malnourished, physically/sexually/verbally abused....
