#MusicMonday Cannot overstate how much the musicians behind Plini & Intervals have given my brain the fuel to work through my uni studies. The passage from around 5:20 to 6:05 makes my heart soar www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCL0...

The deep-sea mining news is grim, but I want to talk about why the deep ocean is so exciting and why we still know very little about how the ecosystems function. Why don't we know more about large, mobile fauna in the deep sea? It's because we are loud and they are fast.

THE CHAFF PROJECT Hi! Are you cis in the UK and you'd like to support trans rights? Great! How: buy a trans flag pin and wear it in public. Why: chaff is an overwhelming amount of false positives so that when a missile gets close to the plane, it hits the chaff and not the plane.

The UK would rather dim the sun than go to therapy (reduce our carbon emissions)

Another successful day surveying the local bees. Here's one Carder & one Red-Tail enjoying a morning snack in the sun #InverteFest

' #Environmentalmanagement: pathways to sustainability... systematic & systemic approaches to complex environmental challenges within the context of global climate & biodiversity crises.' Looking forward to tutoring on this new module in October. www.open.ac.uk/courses/modu...

Continuing #InverteFest , I believe this is a Carder Bee foraging on the dandelions in my garden, but I'm not 100% sure. Any bee-whizes have a more confident ID? @ljbees.bsky.social ?

#InverteFest has very nicely coincided with a pollinator study I'm conducting. Here's a white-tailed bumblebee doing its thing among the gorse

It's spring in the northern hemisphere, the flowers are blooming, the sun is peeking out and the bugs are starting to emerge. You know what that means, don't you? It's almost time for #InverteFest!!! Share your #invertebrates with us April 24-30. www.metrofieldguide.com/invertefest/

Reject lawns. Embrace bug-friendly meadows

Cracking day at the safari with the family. The Small One was very fond of the Ostriches

✨ #pint25 is in a month✨ πŸ—“ 19th-21st May 2025 πŸ“45+ locations across the UK πŸ—£400 events Programme and tickets πŸ‘‰ pintofscience.co.uk πŸ‘ˆ

For all eternity, this image needs to be spammed each time Harry Potter is mentioned anywhere for any reason: Joanne Rowling, smoking a cigar and sipping expensive drinks on top of her mountain of money, gloating about how she helped destroy the rights of her fellow citizens.

Thrilled to be a part of this year's Pint of Science festival! Tickets are limited, so if you're in Stoke-on-Trent, book now & come hear me talk about the city's fascinating fossil history #pint25 @pintofscience.uk pintofscience.co.uk/event/nature...

When I were a lad this was our meme and we were grateful for it.

George RR Martin is an author on the dire wolf paper. Presumably to make sure there’s plenty of incest, cos these wolves will have no one else to fuck except each other.

Getting out in the sun to teach The Small One the joys of rocks, bugs & moss

MAGA people apparently are already trying to exploit this whole fake "dire wolf" story as an excuse to push for the elimination of all conservation programs. This is extremely sad and dumb.

Woke up to lots of comments on direwolf posts along the lines of β€œhuh, I thought this was good, but lots of people in your comments who have PhDs and 20 years of conservation experience think it’s a bad idea. Why am I so much smarter than them at conservation?” So close to a revelation here…

Ho boy, suppose i should have expected that 😬

Been a while since I made a proper video, but this felt very neccesary.
