That we worry about the amount of energy wasted worldwide on training AI models but not on executing "npm run build" is kind of unfair.

IEEE's Software Engineering Radio podcast published last week a very interesting episode with @pfrazee.com. Really useful to understand how the AT Protocol and Bluesky work: se-radio.net/2025/01/se-r...

I just acquired a mechanical keyboard and I'm 100% sure I type at exactly the same speed I was typing days ago on the old membrane one. But I feel much better because the click sound of the keys makes me think I'm typing at the speed of light 😂

This little thing is a big lot of fun. Especially with kids, but not only with them 😊

Blue Danube and Radetzky March already played in Wien, ski jumps in progress. Nice to see some bits of order still in place. Wishing all of you a very happy, healthy and hopefully peaceful 2025.

✍️ New blog 'Problems I no longer have by using Server-side rendering'. This one has been long in the making and finally got around to finish it. If you are thinking about choosing a technology for your next web application, be sure to read this first! www.wimdeblauwe.com/blog/2024/12...

I just got a new M4 Max MBP and, coming from my old 2015 MBP, I feel a bit like getting out of a VW Beetle and straight into a Ferrari. This thing goes like greased lightning. Starting IntelliJ is almost like a switch: off, then on. My test suites run so fast I'm unable to see what is being tested.

YourKit Java Profiler –great tool that I frequently use– is offering Personal Licenses at $99 / 99€ until 21 January: www.yourkit.com/purchase/#pe...

21 December 2024 Happy Solstice to planet Earth and all its residents. For the next half year, daylight gets longer north of the Equator and shorter south of the Equator. Confirming that yes, contrary to what many people think, days get **longer** in the Winter and **shorter** in the Summer.

Docker's algorithm for generating random container names might need some fine tuning.

Thymeleaf 3.1.3 has now been released! Learn more at the project's website: www.thymeleaf.org

I'm not scared of the AI because it will probably be implemented in Python. On the other side, I'm terribly scared of the AI because it will probably be implemented in Python.

absolutely incredible attack vector

An AI that reads StackOverflow and provides you with technical solutions based on summarizing thousands of answers to your question. I find this more terrifying than Skynet. github.com/marketplace/...

This is pretty amazing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fpao...

Loving the custom domain feature. Well thought.

That counter we are all wondering at must be scaring the living daylights out of the Engineering team at Bluesky.

@bsky.app Please make the default language settings apply per account instead of per app. It would make life much easier for those of us that use different accounts to write in different languages, and also allow us to see "Discover" feeds more relevant to each account.

For me, it all started with BASIC on a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, such a long time ago. Thanks and rest in peace. computerhistory.org/blog/in-memo...

Spring Framework 6.1.5 and 6.2.0 have been released! spring.io/blog/2024/11... spring.io/blog/2024/11...

Liking Bluesky so far. Large user migrations currently going on in Spain. Still missing many orgs and media, but I assume they'll arrive once they restructure their investments in Tw marketing. Moderation is great, and the sensation of not being used for driving this world nuts is refreshing.
