New theory - the Greens lost in QLD to ensure Trump didn’t confuse ‘Greensland’ and Greenland? #auspol

On #730 they declared that the Greens only lost QLD seats because of pref flows, claiming their primary vote was stable… Um, they lost 1.5% - that’s more than 1/10 of their voters!! This is a failure by @QldGreens just as much as the LNP #AusVotes2025 #binnight

Every Teal got a 1st pref swing towards them. Every sitting Green got a 1st pref swing AGAINST them. The Greens, like the Libs, decided to focus on their base at the expense of the average voter. #Auspol2025 #binnight

‘Similarly, the Greens adopted grievance politics. And they have also been comprehensively rejected.’ Will the Greens, like the Liberals, put their head in the sand? Judging from the hateful pushback I’ve received from Greens supporters on posts this morning, it looks like they will. #Auspol

so this is that horse-race journalism we’ve heard so much about

Free and fair elections Losers concede defeat Winners act graciously, aim to govern for the whole country Real journalists allowed to ask questions, do their jobs Party partisans claiming to be journalists are treated like partisans The rule of law www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

There are so many similarities between the 2025 Canadian and Australian elections...

“Do not mock us.”

With the polls closed, I’m prepared to call it…. 150 green seats! (W apologies to @davidmoscrop.com) #auspol #binnight

Looking for info on how oral parliamentary questions are distributed in different parliamentary regimes - how much does party leadership control who asks Qs?

A kid wanted to do a Cancer Cancer fundraiser in 2013, so Dad set up them up an email address. After being dormant for 10yrs, the email address started getting Liberal emails. Cancer Council says it didn't give emails to the Liberals but did do "data exchanges" www.crikey.com.au/2025/04/30/l...

Excellent Media Watch episode re Compass poll of McMahon shows that Matt Camenzuli's name was prechecked for SMS response though supposedly respondents had to recheck it for response to be counted. Absolutely bizarre survey method. #pollshapedobject www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/e...

Our democracy requires two-way communication between voters and parties/candidates. We can't complain about being ignored AND also complain when they try to contact us! But harvesting emails from charities is probably not the best way of doing it… www.crikey.com.au/2025/04/30/l...

Looking at intra coalition dynamics - how are minor parliamentary spoils distributed within coalitions? Suggestions for readings?

Met a PhD candidate who specialises in civilian protection. Looked through the last 18 months of their Twitter/Bluesky. Lots of mentions of Palestinians but zero mention of “hostages”…. What a surprise.

Im busy prepping my funny, original, unique posts ahead of Australia’s election on Saturday! #auspol

Housing has become one of the major themes of the 2025 election campaign. And it shows in the emails candidates have been sending out.

Does anyone happen to have a table on religion by electorate in Australia?
