📺 In March, we organised the fourth edition of the “Defence & Statecraft Forum”. We brought together excellent speakers to discuss the nature of transatlantic defence today. You can watch it again! Watch🔸 youtube.com/playlist?lis...

“A large amount of a discourse on the need for Europe to stand together & be united is driven not just by a vision of Enlightenment progress, turning swords into ploughshares. It is driven by the anxiety that Europe could be swept off the table of world affairs.” engelsbergideas.com/essays/paul-...

This was great!

Such a good and thought-provoking read on how Europe approaches the issue of critical infrastructure protection. Give it a look!

I’m old enough to remember Nuland’s “F@!k the EU” line… keep calm, invest more, build-up industry and develop those capabilities. Then words won’t hurt as much…

Do give the latest episode of Strategy Speaks a listen ⬇️ I speak to Ken Endo and Eva Pejsova about how Japan and Europe are adjusting to life under the Trump administration!

At CSDS we focus on European defence and our researchers specialise in a tech, capabilities and industry. We bridge academic rigour and policy relevance through our analysis. Some examples: 🔸 "Special Delivery? The European Council and the March 2025 Defence Summit" csds.vub.be/publication/...

Do sign up for our new Executive Course and join me and my colleagues for a really stimulating learning experience! An ideal course for those that want to understand how Brussels really ticks! #Brussels360

This will be an issue for a lot of European countries… any step towards a “war economy” does not necessarily mean the people will follow. It is a major problem that more tech cannot help with. States on the front lines obviously different and willing to defend their homelands.

Such a great and timely discussion! Our speakers were amazing and covered so much ground. I’m not sure I will go to sleep more soundly tonight, but Europe is starting to ask some of the right questions now. Thanks to all speakers and audience members!

We are underway for panel I at the 2025 "Defence & Statecraft Forum"! We are discussing defence production in Europe with an excellent panel of speakers from the European Commission, industry and think tanks. More info🔸 csds.vub.be/event/deals-...

Parliament has spoken on #ReArmEurope and favourably too, despite the issues that could have been caused by the legal basis. Good to see! ✅ 419 votes in favour ❌ 204 against ➖ 46 abstentions www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/pres...

Super interesting interview in our latest Strategy Debrief. Wise for Europeans to read this right now I would say…

“We have no eternal allies, and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow.” (Lord Palmerston).

Peace, if it comes, will be short-lived. Take note Europe.

Europe’s (serious) intelligence agencies will today not be so much focused on what the current administration is saying (or tweeting), but how Russia and China will try to instrumentalise the messages to create divisions. There is far too much smoke right now…

“Pour tous les maux, il y a deux remèdes : le temps et le silence.”

A provocation…
