One of the people fired from NOAA today is the director of the Ocean Acidification Program. That program also leads the U.S. government's effort on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). The destruction of American science is incomprehensible.

Bloomberg’s first tariff model shows a drop in GDP of 1.2% and an increase in inflation of 0.7% for the US

Very sorry to hear this. Grateful for your expertise earlier this week in regards to this new study on ocean warming out of University of Reading www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Deeply concerning new research on accelerating ocean warming underscores urgent need to stop burning fossil fuels. @bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

President Trump wasted no time this week putting in place a sweeping anti-climate agenda. "It is all happening very fast,” says Columbia University's Michael Burger. “The sheer threat of it kind of gets undermined by the onslaught" Catch up on what happened: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Fire-wracked LA, facing its worst natural disaster in decades, has never needed FEMA more. Now, President Trump has questioned whether the agency the US turns to whenever major disasters strike should continue to play that role. Amid rising global trade barriers, worth remembering firefighters are global resources. As climate change creates more severe fires, like #LAFires, there are fears it will become harder for nations to share. @blkahn.bsky.social @joewertz.bsky.social @bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

The higher pollution levels seen in parts of Los Angeles, for example, may increase mortality by between 5% to 15% on the day people are exposed, and “that doesn’t account for lagged effects,” says UCSD's Carlos Gould. Gift link @bloomberg.com: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

New: A wealthy LA resident's plea for private fire fighters to save his home as Pacific Palisades burned puts a focus on the role of private fire-fighting and the equity of the rich paying to protect their homes with everyone else left to sift through the ashes. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Among the many policies in flux in Canada with resignation of PM Justin Trudeau are 9 years of climate initiatives www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

The combination of more frequent, severe, high-latitude wildfires and fast-thawing permafrost means Arctic tundra is now a source of carbon, rather than a sink, according to scientists' annual report card on the region released today by NOAA www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

''It's cold here, there are mountains, long distances to drive,'' the former head of Norway's sovereign wealth fund told @bloomberglp.bsky.social reporter Kari Lundgren. Familiar obstacles to anyone in Canada -- yet Norway has overcome. www.bloomberg.com/features/202...

The battle to keep global warming within 1.5C has been a rallying cry for #climate action for nearly a decade. Now, with the planet almost certain to blow past the target, many people at #COP29 have found themselves awkwardly clinging to a goal that no longer makes sense. My latest @bloomberg.com:

Underground wildfires - burning from the Arctic to Indonesia - threaten an outsized impact on climate change. Their astonishing scope is shown by @bloomberg.com journalists Kyle Kim and Armand Emamdjomeh. Thanks to @mparrington.bsky.social and others quoted. www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...
