I would like to know the answer to that question too. Clouds? I doubt I'll ever stop calling them tweets.

Also for big kids. So much fun! I could do this all day. If i wasn't mega unfit.

On behalf of the co-authors, thank you for engaging in this thread. This EAA framework is still work in progress (an initial programme theory) but we hope we can spark dialogue on the topic. Hot off the press - here is the Open Access article researchinvolvement.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

We learned that rather than rely on a single word or method to convey a complex process, we can consider how to apply the values and principles of co-production in combination with these "essential elements". With the #intention for authenticity, these can be applied to a wide range of approaches
comment in response to post
We learned that even if only brief, there needs to be an iterative, repeating interaction between #Engagement, #Alignment & #Agreement in context Dialogue & documentation (alignment) is central to this interaction
comment in response to post
By #agreement, we mean those involved reaching a broad consensus #Dialogue on interpretation & understanding is a means towards discovery of a new view. #Alignment and #agreement allow us to work towards a common vision. These "essential elements" require interaction in #context.
comment in response to post
The continued #dialogue on #interpretation of our #SharedUnderstanding is an essential elements towards an #Agreement This is not linear. This is not map to follow. This is not the complete picture. This agreement may just be on "what are our guiding values?"
comment in response to post
We learned that for #coproduction there needs to be moments to reflect on what has taken place. Making sense of #documented #dialogue and expressed views (interpretation) can be a separate part altogether, though it requires further interaction with #alignment in order to lead to #understanding
comment in response to post
We learned that central to #coproduction is the interaction between #dialogue & #documentation Through the bringing together of views or ideas and documentation of these, we can begin to #align expressed views and ideas. We need to have continued dialogue on the #interpretation of documentation.
comment in response to post
What is also essential is that we #document the #dialogue Capturing divergent views ensures voices are heard and provides an opportunity to reflect on views expressed. Documenting dialogue allows us to review decisions, clarify interpretation and report transparently.
comment in response to post
We learned that #dialogue is not only important, but it is central to co-production. There needs to be exploration of ideas & views with mutuality and insight It is through divergence of views which allows us to go beyond one-way knowledge extraction to knowledge sharing
comment in response to post
Through #reflection on #intentions & #assets, we can begin create a conducive environment for meaningful #engagement But to co-produce, these essential elements need interaction with #dialogue. We need to talk about our intentions. We need to talk about the assets in the room.
comment in response to post
Nothing worth having comes easy. While we focus on essential elements (mechanisms), #coproduction is not simple. Consider our opportunities - what resources can we work with to make #coproduction happen? Reflect on what is needed to enhance & build upon the assets in the room.

In a scoping review exploring definitions of #coproduction, we learned that the WHY is more important that the WHAT onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... In this review, we find the WHY can help us to decide on the HOW. Any toolbox can become a tickbox. Any method can be meaningful.

Linking with conclusion from @louiselocock.bsky.social & @annetteboaz.bsky.social #Codesign & #coproduction can be applied to a range of participatory approaches (including qualitative research) bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/configurable...

We learned that #coproduction is more than a word. The words #codesign & #coproduction are often used to communicate a complex engagement process. Many do not report how they co-produced.

Not out of kindness, the process of dialogue was clear throughout. There were also some absolute gems which were #coproduced but excluded because they rely on the co- to convey a process. My first learning experience from Lynn L. was when I used "empowerment" & Lynn introduced me to your work

No easy answer to that, I fear! bristoluniversitypressdigital.com/configurable...

We looked for any interaction with opportunities for mutuality, insight and clarification in their engagement process. We excluded articles that relied on the word co-production or co-design to convey a process. The same if it was only stated that a workshop or focus group took place.

Palmer et al (2019) had also found dialogue to be a key mechanism for #codesign and #coproduction Principles such as power were rarely discussed the articles we located, but we could consider whether there was #dialogue mh.bmj.com/content/45/3...

There have been calls for authentic #codesign (Bragge, 2022) What is authentic? @dr-know.bsky.social et al (2021) -authentic engagement is a result of ‘space to talk’ and ‘space to change’ link.springer.com/article/10.1... Dunston et al (2009) - #coproduction requires a dialogic & learning process
comment in response to post
So what did we learn? With so many different approaches to #coproduction and #codesign, our first challenge was identifying which articles to analyse. A question for you - when does qualitative research (e.g. a focus group) become participatory research? When does it become #coproduction?

As it is #WorldMentalHealthDay, this is a fitting example to share. Breault et al. (2018) People with lived experience (PWLE) of depression - using #codesign and #PPIE link.springer.com/article/10.1...

A really well reported paper using a combination of accelerated #EBCD (#codesign) & the future workshop approach @dr-know.bsky.social et al. (2017) Empowering people to help speak up about safety in primary care (whoops - deleted this mistake. I'm new here) onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Reed, @joelangley.bsky.social and colleagues worked on a project called "head-up" (2015) using #ParticipatoryDesign and #codesign with people living with progressive neck muscle weakness. A really good article with a clear process: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Co-production is more than a word (Cahn, 2000), it is more than a method (Knowles et al., 2021). But what is essential for authentic #coproduction or #codesign? On countdown to publication of our review, let’s take a look at some examples together. Please share your thoughts.

We also learned that #codesign and #coproduction principles can be applied to a wide range of participatory approaches. Which participatory approaches have you applied when #codesigning or #coproducing?

Our first reflection is that the words "co-design" or "co-production" cannot convey the complexity. We identified 45 "reported process themes" 👀 ✨From the initial ‘spark’ all the way to ‘reflection on next steps’ (and there are likely more which went unreported).
comment in response to post
From the 93 articles which reported a process of dialogue, we documented every step which was reported (if it was reported) and mapped these out. We were not assessing quality or quantity so all steps were considered.
comment in response to post
Of the 1000+ articles we read, 775 were applied #coproduction or #codesign 1/3 did not report a process 1/2 reported a process of engagement but it was not clear if there was dialogue Single "co-" words are often used to convey very complex dialogue and learning processes.
