The law bans incitement to violence for a good reason - as evidenced by the subsequent attempts to burn down a hotel full of people - and the leader of the opposition is profoundly foolish to sympathise with anyone who broke that law.

Uhm, I assume that Robert Colville has read the Telegraph articles which he is using as examples in his Times column, an interesting move for a columnist btw? The eye catching headlines aside, they are somewhat disingenuous in their arguments. 1/ www.thetimes.com/article/377c...

You can always rely on Robert Jenrick to weaponise awful situations to stoke yet more division. You notice that he goes straight to making this about Islam and not, as would be somewhat more appropriate under the circumstances, violent criminals in general. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Wishing all those celebrating a happy Passover

Looking forward to Badenoch siding with China over this. It does, along with other recent issues, I would argue, demonstrate the disturbing decline Britain has been on for some time in terms of international standing and respect.

It is a source of amusement, fascination and annoyance to my wonderful wife how I can hate loud noises, people taking etc, but also always need background noise, such as the radio, tv or music. Not to mention how I will listen to the same playlist or song ad nauseam and then go off it entirely.

Great list, lots of my favourites in here too.

Two, of many, things which come to mind here: 1) How is someone convicted of 40 counts of human trafficking only given a 7 years? 2) With politicians consistently framing trafficking as an "immigration issue" it makes it easier for these ones to fly under the radar. www.bbc.com/news/article...

I have so many questions, starting with why is an IKEA store a target in hybrid warfare? Is Putin really that annoyed about not being able to assemble flat packed furniture?

Astounding levels of illegality.

A young boy who came here seeking safety, seeking to build a new life, brutally murdered only two weeks after arriving. Let's hear those people who keep claiming denying asylum to vulnerable people is about "protecting children" condemn this horrific attack. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

The year is still young, but this is possibly the most interesting book-list you will come across this year.

This article by @duncanrobinson.bsky.social is particularly pertinent today, with MPs recalled to pass a law to "save" an industry which accounts for about 0.1% of economic output, while continuing to ignore major funding crises in sectors such as higher education, which account for far more.

A great thread, with a lot of great reads within.

Reminds me of when the UK outsourced removal letters to a private company, which proceeded to tell citizens and lawful residents alike to leave.

The Illegal Migration Act added to the obstacles for victims of modern slavery to receive support. With the failure of the upcoming Borders Bill to reverse that, and with additional measures being implemented by Labour, this is liable to continue getting worse. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Labour's anti-trans agenda has gone even further than Conservatives. What Streeting is pushing is against majority of evidence, evidence which shows that his policies cause genuine harm to trans young people. This government's policies against trans young people will cost lives, that's the reality.

I am sure all those free speech defenders are going to be out in force condemning this....any second now.... This is a sickening example of the trajectory which America is on. No rights, no freedoms, authoritarian xenophobia as policy and law. www.bbc.com/news/article...

No matter the purpose, I have serious reservations about any government passing through laws in a day. It doesn't allow nearly enough time for proper scrutiny (and a law allowing for governments to take over businesses needs scrutiny no matter what) not to mention setting a bad precedent. #r4today
