The Twitter/Bluesky academia is really the perfect academia where scientists are all about caring for their mentee’s careers and futures etc. In real life, you’d be really lucky to have a mentor who cares for anything beyond beyond their grant cycle to give a rat’s ass to the mentees career needs.

I’m noticing that whatever little sympathy Americans had for illegal migrants and their kids was extinguished by Papa Biden open border lallapalooza. The turning point was when migrants started being bussed into blue cities and even their mayors started to squirm. This cruelty isn’t surprising.

They should make the Nobels a 2 year affair. The first half of 20th century when there was so much basic stuff to be discovered — and rightly rewarded for. Now the pace of discovery is just incremental. Why not modulate the pace of awards with them?

Say whatever you want about the US, but it at least makes a pretense of human rights concerns when meeting with foreign leaders. Contrast that with France which shoves aside its “libertè, egalitè” values every time a Modi-esque leader comes knocking with € to buy one of their planes or submarines.
