This is a good lesson about how history is written

This news truly breaks my heart. We are calling on HHS to take immediate action. Secretary Kennedy needs to bring back weekly measles tracking from the CDC, rehire the health experts, and roll out a serious vaccine campaign. Our kids' safety is on the line! abcnews.go.com/Health/1st-m...

Good advice.

Secretary of Defense Hegseth says he doesn’t know if Russia invaded Ukraine. This you?

Word of the Day is ‘ingordigiousness’ (18th century): extreme greed at the expense of principles.

New reporters on the local government beat at #HoustonChronicle. Look forward to seeing their work. #H-Town

All the folks who exited NBC today. Seen together, hoo boy. Message received.

This isn’t how it works and this doesn’t appear to be a quote from her. Honestly, stop sharing these crap memes that don’t have actual linked citations. Please stop turning Bluesky into that shittier site.

Support for Ukraine at the UNGA, 93-18, 65 abstentions; the US swinging to vote with Russia, which I’d argue is the most dramatic shift in US policy at the UN since its founding 80 years ago

Call me innocent, but why is the GOP so sure that foreign interference in US elections will always redound to their benefit?

Finally the obvious story on this. But it is missing the treaty that US and Mexico signed to close the Western Gap- ratified in early 00's. But later US applied and was granted ‘Extended Continental Shelf'. This closed the Western Gap prob to the prior treaty line. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Schadenlatinofreude -how scholars of Latin America feel when they see Europe and the US succumbing to economic and political pathologies that, for years, they’d been told were uniquely Latin American.

Been thinking a lot lately about how great it would be if only the American literary canon contained a novel about how the American people voted themselves into fascism, with many voters thinking they were just choosing a straight-talking non-politician who could clean up the mess in Washington.

I don’t want to be right!!!!!

If amity or enmity of the parents were a condition of jurisdiction, the 14th would state so. Apart from the recent Confederacy, we had just fought a war with Mexico taking ~1/3 of their territory. Talk about hostile parents!

Me notalawyer’s take. ‘Subject to the jurisdiction thereof' says nothing about amity or enmity of the parents. It is the newborn child at the center of the question. The child, who cries upon taking her first breath, is not voicing opinion about any concepts of citizenship or allegiance.

This country has seen some bad moments in the 61 years, 5 months, 16 days I’ve been on this Earth. But it has never, ever before come close to the supertoxic level of stupidity, mendacity, narcissism, nihilism, and moral apathy that threaten to destroy it today.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.
