New single from my Pōneke synthfoolery ensemble RADAR ANGEL out now in all the places. Give it a whirl.

Nailed it

I'm stoked we currently have Cllrs who are owning and getting on with what's needed to make Welly future fit. Easy to get caught up in media negativity and (oft legit) frustrations with bureaucracy but ppl whose only vision is to wind back the clock ain't gonna help us. Gotta tautoko the good mahi 💫

"We are through the looking glass and we all now have to decide who we are & what we stand for"

Words fail me. The unfathomable depths of cringe. The utter lack of self-awareness. Just. What. How. Did. This. Who. Ugh.

Maybe the smartest thing I've read about what's happening (and what will happen) to US democracy. So important to recognise the same forces and trends at work in Aotearoa and stand against those who would erode norms for ideology or expediency.

the first europeans arrived in Aotearoa from the modern day via a hole in space-time in the pacific ocean. unperturbed by the implications of time travel, they were mostly concerned with their vehicles. "where do I park my car?" they asked over and over, which is where we get the word pākehā

Of all the weird takes from those few supporting the Treaty Principles Bill the weirdest I keep hearing is that framing Te Tiriti as a "partnership" is some kind of radical act of judicial activism. Like it's literally a treaty guys, y'all think we signed it with ourselves or something?

"We agreed to work together, very closely... we will begin by calling President Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation" Agent Orange apparently intends to negotiate a settlement unilaterally with Putin & force Ukraine to accept terms. Tragic and unconscionable.

My friend's in need of more participants for this heckin awesome and valuable research so get in there, it's super quick!

All the makings of a doom spiral. Seymour/Peters/Jones will respond to govt unpopularity by escalating antics for their own profiles, tanking Nats polling further; Luxon & poss heirs lack the nous to break that feedback loop. Question is whether PM will ride it out til Nov '26 or cut losses sooner.

Almost missed this but Pharmac is now consulting on further changes to make it easier for folks with ADHD to access treatment - if this affects you or those you care about plz consider popping in a submission! Due 5PM today.

Ugh. The fake right-wing Māori influencer account isn't a new thing, but this fakery, eagerly shopped by NZCPR, seems like an escalation. A whole AI-driven persona, who votes Act.

We're looking for the right person to help the Greens rise to the moment & run our most strongest and most successful campaign yet in 2026. Closes Thurs 27 February, details at the link: www.greens.org.nz/work-for-us Spread the word!

Utter brazen batshittery. No more than expected, but yikes. So many GOP reps handwaving his remarks as theatre: "he wouldn't", no matter how many times he's indulged his worst impulses in the past. The mouth-to-policy pipeline is now largely unimpeded. Reason will only prevail if ppl fight for it.

Waking up to this video at Waitangi just filled me with a copious amount of hope. It is so so good to see a compassionate leader return to Parliament. I have missed Marama so much 💚 #nzpol #maori Source: Green MP Tamatha Paul’s Tik Tok vt.tiktok.com/ZS6Emec2m/

Some good points here. Reflexive cynicism towards capitalist grift shouldn't blind us to perhaps the most profoundly transformational thing humanity has yet made. We can't grapple with the risks if we handwave its potential - that just cedes power to those who'd weaponise it for their own ends.

Most disturbing and credible take I've seen on this is that it's an attempt by NZF to get the attention of international far right dark money influencers - why else chant Trump's name in our Parliament? Methinks Shane Jones has aspirations

The US appears to already be into failing-Soviet-state levels of executive stupidity. 🧵

The brutal truth about our economy right now.

Stamping out racism and xenophobia requires us to emphatically and unequivocally condemn it whenever we see it. For as long as Ministers do not clearly condemn yesterday’s obvious racism and xenophobia from two of their fellow government Ministers, they enable this behaviour to take further root. 1/

Pretty unprecedented in modern times to have senior ministers shouting brazenly racist diatribes at other MPs in Parliament. Barely a media blip though. A sign of the times and of the far-reaching influence the US has on the zeitgeist; Trump gets elected there and suddenly the masks come off here.

Seeing US tech stocks plunge over China's objectively shitty GPT knockoff (DeepSeek) is hilariously ironic given how much Altman et al have coasted on investors' gullibility. Direct questions on controversies elicit propaganda; it answers indirect questions but then deletes its own responses. Cool.

No idea if Bluesky is even vaguely good for this sort of promo but this Thursday my fab lil synthrockin' ensemble Radar Angel are playing at Newtown's Moon Bar with cyber-industrialists Robots in Love and synthwave legend PolarisRadio. HYPE! Tix from UTR. www.undertheradar.co.nz/tour/27333/R...

Oh yup, that'll help 🙄

The Government has cleared house at the Waitangi Tribunal - bringing on right-wing cookers who've supported its agenda like Ron Mark (former NZF Minister), Richard Prebble (former ACT leader), Grant Hadfield and Philip Crump. Absolutely despicable.

David Lynch opened my eyes to film as more than just a way to tell a story. When I found Twin Peaks in my teens it scratched an itch I never knew I had, and I've chased it ever since. His influence lives on, but there'll never be another like him. We're blessed to have had him at all. Silencio.

Meta AI has concerns

Bloody thrilled with Robert Eggers' take on Nosferatu. Lavish homage which draws on the OG's strengths, using all the tools in the expressionist playbook to deliver the director's signature oppressive dread in spades. Appropriately campy and self-aware without losing its bite. An absolute riot.

Don't forget about the extension on submissions for the Treaty Principles Bill! You have until 1pm Tuesday 14th Jan to have your say! Here's the link to submit: www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/mak...

Last day to have your say on the proposed Regulatory Standards Bill, an incredibly dangerous attempt to bind future lawmakers to ACT ideology. A vehicle for the rich to challenge any law they claim unduly impedes on their liberty or property rights. 4th time they've tried this, so much for 3 strikes

Submissions on the Social Security Amendment Bill close tonight. Would impose draconian, cruel sanctions punishing those currently out of work at a time of rising unemployment when the government itself has cut ~10,000 jobs. It'll force more people into poverty and desperation for nothing. Boo.

Submitted on the Treaty Principles Bill? Great! Here's a handy guide to all the other steaming bullshit coming down the coalition's poop tubes this month that we need to flush. Incl. bootcamps, benny bashing, legislating ACT dogma, blocking trans healthcare, and docking pay for striking workers.
