Last month, I attended ProtoCon and got a look at a large number of in-development games. Now I'm taking you on a tour of my afternoon there. Read it here: spacebiff.com/2025/02/25/p...

Duos, the second title in CMYK's Magenta series, is the strongest game of the bunch, a partner game about tactical draws, observation, and risking it all on the right goals. My review: spacebiff.com/2025/02/24/d...

It was a fairly low-key week for me. What did you get up to this past week?

Habemus Papam provides a look into the sordid world of papal elections! It is sensationalist and exciting, but takes a few plays to come into its own. My preview: spacebiff.com/2025/02/21/h...

I was delighted to chat with @gengelstein.bsky.social about Kurt Vonnegut's GHQ, including the game's unstuck-in-time innovations, Vonnegut's efforts to portray the war, and the importance of preservation. Listen here: spacebiff.com/2025/02/20/s...

Thunder Road: Vendetta is another effort by Restoration Games that not only captures the spirit of the original, but supercharges it. My review: spacebiff.com/2025/02/19/t...

My Favourite Things is a trick-taking deduction party game. How does that work, you ask? Surprisingly well, although it's very group-dependent. My review: spacebiff.com/2025/02/18/m...

Not the heftiest week... What did you play?

I've been playing CMYK's new Magenta line. First up is Fives, a Taiki Shinzawa trick-taker that lets every card pull double-duty as a magenta five. It's clever, but still a minor Shinzawa. My review: spacebiff.com/2025/02/17/f...

Reading spacebiff.com is always a pleasure and often enlightening. To see Molly House written about this way is joyous. Congratulations to @miasmacorp.bsky.social and the good folks @wehrlegig.games. Cannot wait to play it again.

Space-Biff at his absolute best. Now to try and snag myself a copy of this game...

Having some redditor quibble over whether a writeup constitutes a "review" or something else — and whether, if it is something else, I ought to label it as such — is just so boring.

We have the capacity to tell richer stories through play. Board games aren't restricted to tales of commerce, construction and conquest. They are an artform, and Molly House shows they are capable of so much more.

Outstanding piece as always. Felt a little emotional just from reading the conclusion tbh. Dan certainly hasn’t made the wait for my copy any easier with this review.

*Yawn* Yet another Thurot piece of brilliance *I'm yawning because my jaw tenses when I get choked up*

Dan's latest review is a Must Read. It's the best gaming-related writing I've read in quite some time. Looking forward to Molly House! #boardgames

There can be such beauty in board games, but that beauty can often be difficult to express or explain. I’m grateful for this kind and generous review, which somehow delicately balances lonesomeness and joy as it captures the full, uniquely human beauty of this timely and deeply important game.

not the first time one of Dan's reviews made me cry what a beautiful, generous, thoughtful review of a game I can't wait to play

The most beautiful board game review I've read.

Didn't think I'd get choked up reading a board game review today, but here we are.

Wow. Dan Thurot knocking it out of the park. I was already excited to get this game, and Dan's review only stoked that fire.

I did not have "crying while reading a board game review" on my bingo card but...well, just read this lovely, thoughtful review of a game's whose release has been timed to hit the hardest.
