ICPSR at University of Michigan has been one of the longest-running secure data archives in the world and is stepping up to the challenges being presented in the current U.S. environment to keep government data as a resource for researchers and policymakers. isr.umich.edu/giving/suppo...

Interview with @ipums.bsky.social on @marketplace.org about public data loss and preservation efforts. www.marketplace.org/2025/02/20/w... We are excited to see the various organizations communicating. The data rescue tracker is meant to help facilitate that. We welcome collaboration!

Disclaimer found on the CDC website: "Any information on this page promoting gender ideology is extremely inaccurate and disconnected from the immutable biological reality that there are two sexes, male and female. The Trump Administration rejects gender ideology ..."

I feel the same way, and I've had several conversations here with people who feel similarly. You are not alone in this. As statisticians, we have skills that are even more crucial now than ever: understanding bias, combatting misinformation, making evidence-based arguments. (1/)

I would not be functional without my mood stabilizer and antipsychotic. If they get taken away from me, I don’t know what will happen. #bipolar

In order for New Yorkers to vote in the closed Democratic Mayoral Primary, they must be registered as Democrats (and not unaffiliated or otherwise) by TOMORROW, February 14th. You CAN do change or update online through the DMV link below with a valid ID: e-register.vote.nyc

I'm trying to put together a short presentation for my students on the current situation with federal data disappearing and archival efforts to save these data. What things should I include? Any links or suggestions welcome.

This is amazing work!

Four months to go! 🌈 Rainbow Trap explores what happens when LGBTQ communities collide with the categories imposed on them. Can’t wait to share my new book with the world on 12 June 2025! Preorder now: www.bloomsbury.com/uk/rainbow-t... #LGBTQ #books #newbooks #gender #sexuality #queer #categories

JUST IN: Federal judges orders HHS, CDC, and FDA to restore “by no later than 11:59 pm” today their websites and datasets to pre-January 30th status. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Yes, and connect with others who are archiving data. There are lots of efforts to get as much of it saved as possible

I still feel awkward calling senators and representatives but this app makes it as easy as possible. It helps you call, keep track, and provides you with a script and instructions.

not paying indirect costs for research is like only paying the players in the Super Bowl. can't have a Super Bowl without coaches, referees, security, janitors, announcers, stadium staff, and a stadium - and you can't have research without supporting people and facilities

This does give me hope

Taking a break from despair to drink a fancy mocktail

I’m feeling defeated today. I won’t let that stop me. One foot in front of the other, we have to keep fighting this fight.

The ASA Pride Scholarship was established to raise awareness and support the success of LGBTQ+ statisticians and data scientists, as well as allies. Nominations will be accepted until March 31. stattrak.amstat.org/...

Here's the script I wrote for calling my representative about the latest horrors. Would probably benefit from a better breakdown of how indirects work, but I didn't want it to get too long. Now I just need to decide whether to call now or wait for Monday when I can talk to an actual person.

Anyone have this one?

Excited to see the datasets going into @icpsr.bsky.social data lumos. A lot of our volunteer work here!! We have more coming! www.datalumos.org/datalumos/

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Got the public use files. Will be up on datalumos soon.

This may be a stupid question, I'm having trouble figuring out how to get this data. I'm not a python user with no experience with data.gov before this. Does anyone want to create a youtube video tutorial that can be shared? I also think students, non-statisticians, etc would benefit from that.

We just launched a 16TB archive of every dataset that has been available on data.gov since November. This will be updated day by day as new datasets appear. It can be freely copied, and we're sharing the code behind it to help others make their own archives of data they depend on.

Because its like Twitter 2009. Here is a starter pack for data initiatives in the google doc. Now we eat lunch. go.bsky.app/6a2mbNf

Anyone know anything about if the Household Pulse Survey public use files were archived?

My colleague Lauren is putting together a directory of any data previously held by the US government that is also held elsewhere! www.laurenparlett.com/index.php?p=...

I think I have to stop checking social media right before bed. I can barely handle it during the day, but seeing all the day’s news right before trying to sleep is not good.
