Everything is closed here in Kalampaka as today marks two years since the Tempi train disaster. On that night a passenger train and freight train collided head on leaving 57 people dead, many students among them. #Greece

The private investigator said on ERT that the death of Vassilis Kalogirou, 39, is not connected to the Tempi investigation. Kalogirou’s mother, who is a prosecutor at the court of appeal, has handled criminal cases in the past. Post mortem results and mobile phone data records are pending.

Over 20 000 earthquakes (magnitudes 1.0 and above) have been recorded between 26 January and 17 February in the sea area between #Santorini and #Amorgos, according to the Geodynamic Institute.

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the area between #Santorini and #Amorgos at 21:05 local time on Sunday night, according to the Geodynamic Institute.

Schools on the islands of Santorini, Ios, Anafi and Amorgos will remain closed for a second week due to the ongoing seismic activity.

More than 7.700 quakes registered between 26 January and 4 February between #Santorini and #Amorgos islands, according to the Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens.

The authorities have declared a state of emergency on #Santorini until March 1, 2025, due to the ongoing intense seismic activity. What that essentially means is that any related actions or works that the local municipal authorities need to do can be done with less bureaucracy.

An earthquake measuring 5.2 in magnitude (on the Richter scale) was recorded 21:09 on Wednesday evening. This marks the strongest tremor so far in the ongoing seismic sequence in the sea area between #Santorini and #Amorgos islands, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute.

Between 26 January 2025 and 2 February 2025, more than 4,500 tremors were recorded between #Santorini and #Amorgos islands, according to the Head of Geology & Geoenvironment Dept. at the University of Athens. Most of these were not intense.
