I genuinely think the whole "customer facing staff should legally be allowed to beat up 1 abusive customer a year" would be very effective. Staff are going to make sure only the WORST get the beating, as they only get 1 a year, and the customers will behave so they don't get it.

A quick tip I've found useful as a reader: If you're not reading a book set explicitly in a different time period it's always a good idea to check when it was published to get some much needed context in regards to attitudes and norms and the general zeitgeist of the time.

Honestly, 1 of my fave ever takes on a comic book character is Garth Ennis' Max run. Absolute perfection and some of the hardest hitting action and storylines combined with a wickedly dark sense of humour. Jason Aaron's continuation is also great but, man, Ennis' Punisher is just perfection.
