1-2μm/°C is a good 'rule of thumb' for the axial shift of the focal plane of an objective with temperature, or ~1-2 depths of field (DOF) at high numerical aperture. -> Here's a typical lab trace with a swing of 1-2°C over 1-2h. This is ~1-4 DOF of drift per hour! So continuous autofocus is needed!

🚨🍄🥼Delighted to share the registration page for our Mycology Bioimaging Workshop on "Imaging the Fungal Cell" W/ pre-AMI Fundamentals workshop @caronjacobs.bsky.social 🗓️ July 28 - Aug 7 2025 🌍 @AMI_microscopy Cape Town, SA 🥼 Hands-on 🔬 Pls RT & Apply here: sites.google.com/view/mycolog...

🔈 We will be releasing the registration website in the coming week. Watch this space for any #Africa based mycologists wanting to use fluorescence microscopy to study fungal pathogenic mechanisms!

Get ready to #standupforscience in 2.5 weeks!

Exciting kick-off meeting in Liverpool of our FungiCARE MRC consortium on combinatorial use of antifungals. Thanks to William Hope for hosting and Elaine Bignell for leadership. @mrccmm.bsky.social @exeter.ac.uk @youngecmm.bsky.social @rebeccacminman.bsky.social @hcosborne.bsky.social

Looking forward to chatting to the Exeter Respiratory group about fungal pathogens and pathogenesis on the microscope. Love meeting others outside my expertise!

Wow

Huzzah! A 3D print of a CFW stained yeast. The 3D surface model was exported from IMARIS. Printed by our talented PhD student Jack Gregory.

We just released and uploaded a new version of *Mastodon*, the large-scale tracking and track-editing framework for large, multi-view images. Mastodon is available via Fiji, via a dedicated update site. mastodon.readthedocs.io/en/latest/do... Below is a thread that survey some of the novelties ⏬️

Great talk by Michelle Momany today at the MRC-CMM on her lab’s studies of spore germination and antifungal drug resistance in Aspergillus. @mrccmm.bsky.social @mcmomany.bsky.social @youngecmm.bsky.social @exeter.ac.uk

What are people doing with waste #3Dprinting #PLA plastic? #Exeter #UK

Today we’re installing our latest system for throughout plate and slide imaging of histology and FL MYCOscopy. This will unlock a few more scaled up projects @mrccmm.bsky.social #MycologyBioimagingInitiative

"I'll start writing it closer to the deadline"

🔬 Are you interested in fluorescence microscopy of fungal pathogens/pathogenesis? Mycology Bioimaging Intiaitive @mrccmm.bsky.social is thrillied to announce it's first workshop in CapeTown for #African scientists (w/AfricaMicroscopyInitiative) Please disseminate! forms.office.com/e/gcpvytvyuz

🥼We are recruiting! Exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the newly-funded MRC Programme Fungi-CARE (Combinations Against Resistance Emergence). Find out more and apply here: jobs.exeter.ac.uk/hrpr_webrecr...

End of story.

Come and join the team @mrccmm.bsky.social in sunny Devon! Exciting time to join with excellent mentors

An exciting opportunity for a PDRA to join the Fungi-CARE team seeking novel antifungal regimens that protect antifungal drug utility. Background on Fungi-CARE project £3.2M from MRC and Apply here www.linkedin.com/posts/maaike....

After all these years filling my screen until I can't see the tab anymore - I found the tab group function in Goole Chrome. Big find for 2025!

Fungi have an incredible ability to survive in all sorts of environments. But what makes them so resilient? We’re offering up to £3 million per award to investigate the mechanisms of fungal adaptation. This knowledge could benefit human health. Apply by 28 January ⤵️ wellcome.org/grant-fundin...

I'm looking to database organelle dyes which work in fungi. Please comment if you can contribute w/ details. We regularly see @mrccmm.bsky.social that some don't work in some fungi, but I just don't think it's been tested properly #Mycoscopy I started this w/ Alex Lichius years ago, tip of the 🧊!

The Institute of Biology Valrose is recruiting an engineer for its communal microscopy facility. The candidate will work together with an imaging engineer to develop and apply light microscopy approaches across scales to address a range of scientific questions. emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/U...

powerful words @neleshg.bsky.social

Saw this in someone’s feed the other day - reccomend? I’ve been looking for a good bike ergonomics guide, this may have?

First go at getting hard mounted histoclear off a couple of our lenses. Extremely careful bamboo stick poking w/70%ethanol seemed to do the trick.

I get hypnotised by microscopy every time I do this #microscopy #histology @darrenthomson.bsky.social

This is why we use confocal #microscopy to type mitochondria @mrccmm.bsky.social #MYCOscopy Left image is a 4D projected confocal stack of mitochondria, that would represent a typical widefield image. Middle represents a single confocal Z slice in the hypha.

This feels important, Kudos Finland

Great news - now UK and everyone else needs to do the same and start supporting society and not for profit publishers.

This will have a major impact on university-level funding. Every year, we report our publications to the ministry, and the publication level directly translates to the amount of cash given back to our universities. This is a big deal.
