This whole country wants bad things for others more than they want good things for themselves.

Game writers! If you were laid off, @marykwrites.bsky.social @alexmakesstuffup.bsky.social & I want to help out with portfolio, sample, or resume reviews. Just respond to this post with a number between 1 & 1000 and we'll select a few folks for a review. For free, obv.

I feel so unmoored with Slack down??

I'm getting some followers through older TES posts, hi! I mostly post TES on @ladynerevar.bsky.social, with this being the personal account

I've learned (and I am still learning) how to run a game studio for the last seven years doing both creative and biz. Here's a list of guidelines that work for us and might be useful for others that were lessons I've incorporated with our experience and guidance from others. 🧵

This is a really fun site if you are interested in the production design of Star Trek. It's a catalog of identifiable commercial products used to make things look "futuristic". star-trek.design

If you played TTRPGs between 1970-2004, PhD Candidate Geoffrey Ramirez (Binghamton U) is seeking participants for “Character Creation: The Tabletop Role-Players Oral History Project” as part of his dissertation. Interviews will be archived at the Strong Museum of Play (can be time-locked, etc)

wheeljam is officially Gaming News, which is surreal as hell. given that they shoutout don’tnod, it is equally important that i remind you to: a) sign up for wheeljam and b) buy lost records: bloom & rage when it releases TOMORROW www.rockpapershotgun.com/elder-scroll...

This is a very insightful thread about how we can sometimes accept a framing for a problem and find a great solution to the problem without ever asking ourselves if this was even a good problem to try and solve.

Too many people on here seem to believe there are exactly two kinds of Americans: ardent politically-obsessed Bluesky users, and frothing MAGA cultists. There are a LOT of people in this country who *just don’t pay a lot of attention one way or another*. And we absolutely can reach them.

After a year and a half of writing alt text for Bluesky, it's gotten weird to post images elsewhere without adding alt text. It takes a little getting used to but then just becomes second nature.

My zoom background is a picture of Morrowind, to bait coworkers into talking to me about Morrowind (success rate is high)

Every morning I wake up, open my phone, and find out about 3 new ways things are worse than when I went to sleep.

"Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works," what a phrase

The problem is that the anxious need to save money due to a possible recession has never been higher but the need for a Little Treat is likewise off the charts

Something you can do to stand against RFK jr’s attempt to make us all sicker is wear a mask when you share air with others. Resist mask bans. People who cannot afford to get sick have a right to exist in public. Masking will protect your health from him too.

I wrote this bit that is entirely unrelated to current things

We need to talk. If you're going to make a "narrative-driven" game, you need to have professional, ergonomic, narrative tools that facilitate narrative pipelines, design, writing, editing, and collaboration with other disciplines, particularly localization, audio and performance (if any).

there is something kind of hysterical about watching the global hegemon abandon its global hegemony simply because its current administration thinks the method of that hegemony is too gay

This is a word of warning to all of us. Left, right, or anything else. Constantly reevaluating and learning.

Going to have to start posting my succulent pics here since I'm trying not use instagram...

Now, with alt text, to ensure everyone fully understands exactly what we're dealing with with the 19-yo Canadian calling himself Big Balls who, along with a few other nerds, seem to have had exclusive control over the United States Treasury Department since Friday

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm. The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him. Happy Black History Month.

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

This goes for all creative endeavors, not just games: It's never been easier to Do The Thing, but it's getting harder by the day to Make Money Doing The Thing.

Instead of recommending that recently laid off BioWare devs risk everything to start their own studios (lol like it's so easy?) You could take a bit of that energy and buy games from some that already did ☺️ Eternal Strands just launched this week and I'm pretty sure Stray Gods is on sale!
