WYOMING: “Thank you, Madam chairman.” “I prefer ‘Mister’ chairman.” “Well you all voted preferred pronouns cannot be compelled speech.”

@chadbourn.bsky.social I imagine this would make a certain mango maniac very very angry

Come on ffs. They were given security guarantees before and look what happened. Why would you EVER trust the mango fool?

Excellent thread (follow Adam for thoughtful reflections on how the UK state works and doesn’t work). I feel like there ought to be an elegant phrase for attempting to do social policy through other policy levers because it happens so often and it is mostly terrible.

apnews.com/article/ukra... Ukrainians rally around their president after Trump seeks to denigrate him

Congratulations to @cavalorn.bsky.social on a throwaway tweet from years ago becoming this

"The American republic is undergoing a constitutional crisis as the president attempts to rule as an autocrat, a heedless billionaire smashes through people’s lives with sadistic glee, and the U.S. is attempting to reverse eighty years of world leadership." www.thebulwark.com/p/america-jo...

Europeans, for their own sake and that of the world, need to play hardball with Russia and its new ally, the United States. That should include: rejecting any talks that do not involve Ukraine, providing new security guarantees to Ukraine--including troops on the ground...

⚡️Lithuania's president unveils 6-point plan to support Ukraine, strengthen European security. "We must act now to support Ukraine and boost Europe's security. No more talk shops — time for action," Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda wrote on X.

"Trump wants to partner with Putin’s Russia morally and politically—against Ukraine, and against liberal democracy. The U.S. president is on Putin’s side. Trump made clear he’s going to make a deal—one that amounts to a capitulation—regardless of Ukraine’s wishes." www.thebulwark.com/p/the-cruelt...

Elon Musk fires nuclear specialists amid ongoing mass government purge. DOGE then scrambles to rehire them as the National Nuclear Security Administration bleeds critical staffing. www.news-cafe.eu?go=news&n=13... #news #elonmusk #musk #trump #nuclear #security #doge

“.. We now have an alliance between a Russian president who wants to destroy Europe and an American president who also wants to destroy Europe,” another European diplomat observed in recent days ... “The transatlantic alliance is over.” @politico.com www.politico.eu/article/dona...

COLLINS: You are a coequal branch of government BERNIE SANDERS: Are we?! I kinda thought so, but you'll have to explain that to the president

Rubio may have built his entire career around righteous opposition to autocrats abroad. Now, however, he’s discovered that what’s really best is for America to “take advantage of this incredible opportunity to partner with the Russians geopolitically, on issues of common interest, and economically.”

“All politicians have strengths and weaknesses. What has gone wrong for Kemi Badenoch is that her skills align with a very different job to the one she actually has.” In the @newstatesman.com this week, some thoughts on being leader of the opposition www.newstatesman.com/politics/con...

"In less than a month’s time, Rubio has presided over America’s willing abdication as leader of the free world. It’s a shameful legacy that cuts against everything he once proclaimed to stand for."

Hi All--a double barrelled post I hope you will find very important (and all free). First a comment on what we saw from Trump last night. The USA is now an open enemy of democracy--and needs to be understood as such. Also, Paul Krugman and I have a video chat. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...
