While doing light recon on a somewhat prevalent jeweler site (using CakePHP) we discovered an orphaned webshell endpoint actively being used. This was determined to be malicious in nature. So we reversed the obfuscated payload to deploy a WAF rule that killed access in real time. A thread.

Seeing a pattern in vuln scanning local/regional businesses. Susceptibility to and subsequent Magecart style automated infection of web surfaces. If you control a website, you need to be vetting code and securing it. Misconfiguration of WordPress and WAF is all it takes to have your data skimmed. 👀
