Eruption of Puyehue-Cordón Caulle in Chile. Image taken by Landsat-5 back in 2011.

I've been rebuilding the interactive map isspix.com/ISSImagesMap... & came across this snowy gem-of-a-pic: N is down, taken 5 Jan 2013 by probably CSA astronaut Commander #ChrisHadfield on-station on the #InternationalSpaceStation. The 400-mm high-res is available via the orange pin on Kamchatka

🧊🛰️ While this animation maybe boring, it is not . This is a view of a ~60km #iceberg and it stands still in one of parts of the world with most intense winds and currents yet no major motion nor rotation is apparent. In icebergs the visible part is just a minor fraction of the total mass, it's huge!

I was looking up the distance to Voyager 1 for reasons, and saw that it passed 25 billion kilometers from Earth just a little over a month ago. science.nasa.gov/mission/voya...

#HowIUsedGISToday I used a simple choropleth map of GNI pc on a GIS map to allow pupils to explore how changing the class intervals changes the story. Maps are inherently value-laden. The cartographic choices we make influence the stories we tell. Let's tell worthy stories.

Very good. And about time.

Our wonderful planet, seen by @eumetsat.bsky.social's #MTG satellite. I'll never get tired of views like this. Can you see the thunderstorm clouds bubbling up just ahead of the sunset?

Enjoy the view over the colorful hills of the Tiger mountains near Zharkent in south-eastern #Kazakhstan. We wish you a wonderful Tuesday. #Photography #Landscape #CentralAsia #ThePhotoHour #Stormhour #Nature

1) Open up image 2) Search around the middle 3) Find the small, bright dot just left of centre 4) Congratulations! You've found the Curiosity rover on Mars, imaged from orbit.

Q for people who use Web of Science a lot: I performed a search with 7,172 results and want to export the results to Excel. Unfortunately, it looks like I can only export 1,000 at a time. Do I really need to export 8 files and combine them, or is there a way to get around this limit? Thanks!

#swamps #bog photo thread : for those interested in non-political swamps... ;-) I shared some photos of #swamps #bog south of Copenhagen, Denmark, in a different thread (from Sorø, specifically)

Okay, photo 2 from my Blue Sky resurgence ...... taken in Amlwch - a place with loads of photographic potential except it's about 1.5 hours' drive away from my house - but I will visit again.

We wish you a nice Saturday with a photo of the snow-capped peaks of the Sairam-Ugam mountain range in the delicate purple evening light near the city of Shymkent in #Kazakhstan. #Landscape #Mountains #Photography #PhotoHour #StormHour

Quote-post @dlr-next.bsky.social: nice 👇 night pic of Beijing / Peking. On the interactive map isspix.com/ISS067, there is an orange pin for DLR-next's post - also has link to downloadable high-res. #ZoomWAYin

All the best to @planet4589.bsky.social with his retirement. Will gladly welcome him back to the UK! www.newscientist.com/article/2468...

A #map of maps. I decided I needed a better way of cataloguing all the maps I've made in my day job. I created a script to go through my entire projects folder, extract the extent of every map, and add it to a dataset with with its filename and a link to its location. There's almost 500 of them!

Good morning, while hiking through Burabay National Park in #Kazakhstan we came across a rock that was shaped in a crazy way: It looks like someone is holding a heart up with one hand. Do you see it too? 😍 Happy Valentine's Day everyone! 💞 #Photography #Nature #Landscape #Love

An eye-opening & insightful read: A City On Mars raises very good thoughts & points re settling off-Earth. Written with depth & humour (great last line on pg 390 mentioning @philplait.bsky.social!). Nice writing by @weinersmith.bsky.social & @zachweinersmith.bsky.social. #TwoThumbsUp

In the last month, half of this Island in the Indian Ocean has been burned by wildfires. This Sentinel-2 satellite pic, 9th Feb, shows the scale of the devastation: Those brown areas are burnt. Some small fires still raging in the N and SE☹️ bbc.com/news/article... Data: Copernicus / ESA

🧪🛰️🌊 This afternoon and at 53 S , the mud flats of San Sebastian Bay in Tierra del Fuego constitute the southernmost dust source in the world. While small compared to other sources farther north, its location is such that dust from here can easily reach Antarctica #biogeochemycles #highlatitudedust

All the talk here about proudly flying the #CanadianFlag, well this flag was “flown” very high - at about 400 km up! Pic taken on Christmas Day, 2012, with Commander #ChrisHadfield, by an accompanying astronaut, retrieved from the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit, NASA Johnson Space Center

It’s worth noting that the US is a member of the International Hydrographic Organization (see the map: all 🟢 are members). #GoogleMaps or any other app has no authority to change any info about international bodies of waters. 🗺️ It’s the #GulfOfMexico. #AcademicSky #Geography #Hydrography
