This use of irony is effective because it plays on the contrast between what is expected (Trump being defensive or upset about the mockery) and what actually occurs (him humorously acknowledging the situation and claiming prowess in speaking).

being mocked for the birther issue while claiming competence in public speaking, especially after being the subject of Obama's roast.

Later in the evening, Trump got up to speak and said, "I'm really good at this, I love this. I'm a really good speaker." This statement can be seen as ironic because Trump was acknowledging the irony of his own situation - being mocked for the birther issue

Obama said, "No one is happier, no one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald. And that's because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter — like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?"

Here's an example of Donald Trump using irony: During a speech at the 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner, Trump, who was known for questioning Barack Obama's birthplace, sat in the audience while Obama humorously addressed the "birther" controversy.

Monthly subscription started. Made some one-off donations, but time for regular support. Extract from the article… "Wikipedia was more likely to portray right-leaning figures negatively than their left-leaning counterparts." There’s probably a good reason for this statement! Agree entirely

Fun fact, I worked with Eleanor the wife of Andrew Parker who saved 20 people on the Herald of Free Enterprise, including his wife Eleanor. Andrew created a human bridge for the passengers to crawl across. Eleanor was a tiny, lovely lady originally from the Philippines and Andrew was a 6’ 4” giant

I hear your frustration. I follow both of you and saw the cartoon first from Brooklyn Dad. As soon as I saw it I knew it was one of yours, brilliant as usual. Surprised he didn’t credit you, not like him. I have shared and liked, but sorry only 19 followers 😬. Still my favourite bollocks man, niche

We also used to be able to buy as much as we wanted, in the good old days. Better public transport and frictionless borders, whoever knew Europe had so much to offer 🤷‍♂️
