History was made in March 1977 as the Bill Jenkins rink from PEI won the World Junior Curling Championship defeating Sweden in Quebec City. The team (PEISHOF 1977, PEI Curling HOF 2011)included Jenkins, John Scales, Sandy Stewart, Alan Mayhew & Coach Doug Cameron (PEISHOF 2001)

Hockey in Prince Edward Island began 135 years ago thanks to Dr. Harry Johnson who brought the rules of the game to Canada’s smallest province after playing at McGill University in Montreal. The first game was played in Charlottetown on Jan. 7, 1890.

47 years ago…PEI Sports Hall of Famer Rick Vaive played for the first Team Canada in the 1978 World Jr. Championship in Montreal & Quebec City. They settled for bronze losing to Russia (Gold) & Sweden. Vaive had 3 goals in 6 games. 16 year old Wayne Gretzky was a linemate who had 17 points.
