In sunny Roma this morning it’s all about the Six Nations rugby and the health of the Pope. And cappuccino and cake.

Some light relief from OnLondon - if ‘light’ is the correct adjective - in the form of a sketch by my alter ego inspired by a true story: www.onlondon.co.uk/john-vane-wa...

Where I had my dinner last night. Decision about tonight imminent #Rome

Those London by-elections keep on coming. @lewisbaston.bsky.social keeps on reporting: www.onlondon.co.uk/lewis-baston...

No notes

A park in Rome (complete with parakeets).

Three London by-elections last night - three Labour holds but each intriguingly different. The worst vote drop was Lillie ward in (Hammersmith &) Fulham, the smallest was in Whalebone in (Barking &) Dagenham. I’ll be writing them up for @davehillonlondon.bsky.social in the next couple of days.

Here's @lewisbaston.bsky.social's top-of-the-range analysis of yesterday's Brent Council by-election result: www.onlondon.co.uk/lewis-baston... #london #libdems #labour #brent #conservatives #reform

Here's that Brent by-election result from yesterday. Later, @lewisbaston.bsky.social will be telling OnLondon readers what it all means. #London

Just over a week ago we installed a prototype modular home outside the Building Centre in central London. Delivered on three lorries and installed in three hours, it provides a 63sqm 2bed apartment for just £100k that can deployed for temporary accommodation as a meanwhile use.

Saw latest Bridget Jones in Walthamstow last week with wife, a daughter, a son and a friend. Very silly, very enjoyable, and contained this beautiful thing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL6w....

Mayor Khan’s latest remarks about #Heathrow practically oblige me to again recommend you read this recent piece for On London by @charleswright57.bsky.social

He’s now said these things and also some other ones, which I’m reading about on the Overground as I return from King’s College lecture by Rachel Blake MP. More on this as we get it…

The NHS was the key test by which voters said after the election last July they would judge the success of this Government. *If* hitting the 2 million appointment target is the start of a wider waiting list turn around could well be the case Labour’s rocky start is all but forgotten come 2028.

Following last week's contest in Barnet, another London borough by-election is taking place today, this time in Brent. I will be waiting anxiously for the result. Good preview here from Andrew Teale: andrewspreviews.substack.com/p/previewing.... #london

Later today, Sadiq Khan will call for "bold" closer alignment between the UK and the European Union in the age of trade tariffs and in the context of Ukraine situation: www.onlondon.co.uk/sadiq-khan-t... #London #onLondon

New for OnLondon by @lewisbaston.bsky.social - www.onlondon.co.uk/lewis-baston... Labour comfortably held a Barnet Council seat on Thursday, but it wasn't a victory to bring the party much joy. @robfordmancs.bsky.social @luketryl.bsky.social @labourlist.bsky.social @barnetlabour.bsky.social

NEW. A (Very) Long Read: The story of Darren Rodwell, champion of Barking & Dagenham: www.onlondon.co.uk/dave-hill-a-... @labourlist.bsky.social @teamlabouruk.bsky.social @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social @theguardian.com

After Vance Munich rant it is clear Europeans cannot rely on the US for our security. We should push back hard against the insulting bullying behaviour of Trump and Vance. Why doesn’t the Trump/Vance administration sort out its own rampant murder rate, mass shootings and drug addiction problems.

✅ Labour HOLD Burnt Oak (Barnet) council by-election result: LAB: 45.0% (-18.2) CON: 21.2% (-2.7) REF: 18.4% (+18.4) GRN: 8.6% (-4.4) LDEM: 3.9% (+3.9) +/- 2022 Estimated turnout: ~17% (-12)

The piece of political journalism I would most eagerly read right now is an account of what is *actually* going on in Reform.

Labour hold in #London borough of Barnet, by a comfortable margin.

The stop-start Beam Park development, much of it on the former Ford production plant site in Dagenham, gets a mention here. #london

Thank you. And help.

Screw Google for capitulating to this childish nonsense.

Sadiq Khan's relationship with the current national government is not antagonistic as it was with the last one, but negotiations with it are complex as @charleswright57.bsky.social's piece about #Heathrow & other transport matters shows: www.onlondon.co.uk/charles-wrig.... @nickbowes.bsky.social

On LBC this morning, I spoke about why we should be far more worried the power Elon Musk is accruing, especially in light of his Open AI moves. The normalisation of his actions and activity by quite a bit of the US and even UK media is a big part of the problem. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGnt...

Sir Mark and Sir Sadiq are not happy about this: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
